Bush ready to veto stem cell measure

WASHINGTON - President Bush has chosen to use his veto pen three times â?? twice on the stem cell issue where politics, ethics and science collide. Pushing back against the Democratic-led Congress, Bush plans to veto a bill Wednesday that would have eased restraints on federally funded embryonic stem cell research, White House spokesman Tony Fratto said.

At the same time, Bush will issue an executive order directing the Health and Human Services Department to promote research into cells that, like human embryonic stem cells, also hold the potential of regenerating into different types of cells that might be used to battle disease.

Democrats made the stem cell legislation Bush promised to veto a top priority when they took control of the House and Senate in January. They do not, however, have enough votes to override a veto.

What an asshole. These stem cells are to be thrown into the trash anyway, they are whats left of someones try for a baby after they have succeeded and no longer need them. The deal is, research is needed. Maybe some nerve growth in Parapalegics could be found and turn their lifes around, Ahlsheimers, spina bifida, Diabetes, there are hundreds of ailments that may benefit from this research and the asshole with his misconstrued religeous beliefs is stopping this, they ought to prosecute him for promoting misery. I wonder if his child was paralized if he'd think differently, Let me emphasize, ASSHOLE!

It's a hard issue for me to pick one side or another. I've thoroughly discussed the morality of abortion with my friends as is, questioning the "humanity" of a fetus, and honestly I still can't come to a solid conclusion. Overal though, I'm more bothered by abortions of a fetus that exhibits any brainwaves. I think once they have any spark of a mind, the abortion shouldn't happen unless medically necessary.


However, I was under the impression that the objection to stem-cell research was based on cloning the embryo's for use then destroying them. Objecting to the use of fetuses already aborted, if that's the case, I just don't understand. They're going to the garbage either way, might as well save some lives in the meantime. As for Embryo's, I'm still somewhat on the fence, but considering that they have no real conscious form or even a spark thereof, I'm inclined to support it.

Personally I strongly support stem-cell research considering I have a stake in it, and I'm sure there's a lot of people in chronic pain who do to. As is, there's NO cure or anything close to cure my condition. From what I've been reading, stem-cells are the first breakthrough that actually has hope of ending my constant pain, and the considerably worse constant pain of many MANY other sufferers with diseases like Multiple Sclerosis or Cancer.

Yet another case of the mindless religious right taking the self-righteous fairy tale path as opposed to the logical one. Undeveloped cells with are more important to him than Muslim lives, otherwise Bush's "tolerance for life" would be evident in everything he does.
