What's this 420 thing all about then?

Hello and welcome to my 420th anniversary thread, it is exactly 420 posts since I joined cannabis.com!

I've decided to mark this day by turning my avatar upside down, for a period of exactly 420 hours from now. MY avatar will be restored to its uprightly splendour on the morn of the 1st of July.

Anyway, I'd like to know why I am celebrating the number 420, can someone please explain to me the relevance of the 420 thing. What is it, 42 multiplied by 10? 4 and 20 blackbirds baked in a pie? 20 past 4 in the morning?

It has to do with some kids used to meet up in front of some statue at 4:20 every day to smoke and it caught on. There is a thread on it but the thread has several explanations but this is the right one.

LMAO you celebrate something with no prior knowledge of it, for all you knew it could have been the day that marijuana was illegalized in 1937!

Explanations I've heard:


- Bob Marley's birthday is on 4:20. LOL, I argued with my friends so much becaues they insisted this is right, then we researched marley and sure enough I won the argument:smokin:.

- The L.A. Police force's code for a marijuana offence was a 4:20 (first one I heard).

- Bob marley died at 4:20

- It's a day for dopefiends to celebrate Hitlers birthday, HAHAHA no shittin' I actaully heard this once.

Total congrats Staurm on 420, all I know is 420 AM or 420 PM whatever time I am up I will smoke, soppose to be the time all stoners light up across the world, its a heart thing bra... Congrats, cant wait til my 420 post :dance::dance::dance:

I never really knew the "real" reason behind 420, too many explinations, not enough truth/logic behind them... so I just do it for my own reasons now.


Any time that I can smoke at 4:20, I dedicate it to all my fellow stoners who have ever been busted or screwed over for just smoking some grass... that bowl is for them, in their honor.
