Hps?

I took a trip to my local lowes today. I was wondering if I would have to get a ballest for a 70watt hps light. I have just been using cfl's to do my growing. I was going to grab a small hps light to get thicker buds but I don't have the money to get the ballest as well. I was thinking that being under the 100 watt max of my ballest that I can add 2 more lights too if I could us a 70 hps in there.

great thought...but it is not that easy. if you use that 70wt hps in a standard socket you will either burn the socket. or it wont light up all the way. some lowes do have an outdoor socket that is rated for 250 watts, it is by the garden lights and extension cords. with a little bit of experiance it can be made to work safely. you can use up to a 100 watt bulb in the 250watt outdoor socket. but hell for the 30$ they waNT FOR THE BULB AND THE 20$ IN PARTS YOU ARE GETTING CLOSE TO AFFORDING A LARGE GROW CFL OR FOR A FEW MORE BUCKS A USED 250-400 WATT HPS.

i am using 5 cfls in a box about 4 ft tall by 2 1/2 wide and im might add 3 more do u think its good or no kuzz i know u have to have allllot of cfls to grow good and i was thinkin about lightin the hell out of it like 12 or sumthin...good or no and its a fire proof material...

Spread your cfl's around mate. not just on top i mean and yes it will benefit.

The 70w HPS security lights they sell at box stores have a built-in ballast, that's why they are so heavy... just read the box, it will tell you.

I got out there to look around a little better. I seen the 70 watt and 100 watt outdoor lights. got to reading the box and pulled it out of the box and looked at the watt and volt specs on the socket its self. I am going to take my friend ( who is a does this stuff for a living) and go back out there and see what I can put together for the cheap. :thumbsup:

I got a good idea of what I can use and a good price range for what I need to get. buld socket power cord and plug. I got the hood made already just waiting to get the power stuff done. I just got my hood on my cfl's right now.thanks for all the info I will keep you all posted happy growing.:smokin:
