Is early sexing then reverting to veg. safe?
hey all, i have 8 ak-48 bout 5-6in. tall and have put em under a 12/12 cycle starting 2 days ago to sex them early...my reason is that last time i vegged 14 plants in my room and had only 3 females...bad because i only have 9 square ft. to work with so i could of ultimately allowed the 3 females to grow a great deal bushier b-4 flowering if i would of known earlier...i want to rid the males this time and then put them back on their 18 hr. light cycle so they can veg to bout 18 in...is this safe...i hate to waste the space when its so limited but i'm worried bout the rish of hermies and sex problems...what u think?

Hi! I haven't tried this....because logic tells me this is quite stressful. Why leave yourself open to more problems by switching thier schedules back and forth? I wait until the plants preflower. Males don't need the light cycle to flower (I think it was Weedhound who said they are excited to jump on that booty, lol funny) and usually begin preflowering at 5-7 weeks and females tend to preflower at 6-8 weeks.
Now that you have only 8 plants compared to the 14 you had last time, I'd imagine you'd have room.

You could just take a cuttings and put that under light for a few hours a day then place them in a light proof area for the rest of the day and they would show sex that way. It would be a small hassle but since your limited on space you could do it that way without stressing your plants. There are some growers who "revegg" plants that have been fully flowered , so unless the strain is hermie prone it should be ok. You could use a product like reverse to counteract any stress induced hermie traits your plant might have also.

Will the plants burst into flame? No.
They will, tho, take a really long time to revert to vegetative growth- like a month. Then you're going to veg them for a while, then flower them again. I think you'll probabley get the best yeild over time ratio if you let them finish and then get new plants in there.
Also, the extended stress period will take it's toll- you could end up losing some or all of the plants anyway. I've only found re-veg to be useful when I discovered a mom w/ real potential that, for whatever reason, I hadn't any cuttings from before I started flowering. It's a Hail Mary play- only worth it when there's nothing to lose.
If they're only a few days into flower, kick em back into veg, take cuttings and LABEL them, then flower the moms. When the boys show, kill em and dump the cuts from those plants. Now you can move the cuts into flower ( having held back at least one for a mom) and re-fill the space. You'll harvest twice, a couple weeks apart.
About the time you harvest the original plants, you'll wanna take cuts from yer set-aside mom. These are all known girls, so you can root them, veg til you feel good about it, and flower. No worries. No hermies. No hassle.
