Don't just say Democrat or Republican. Go in depth.
What do you believe about fiscal issues?
What do you believe about social issues?
What are your key concerns regarding international relations.
I'm asking because its easy to tell affiliations on here, but its not as easy to tell what everyone's beliefs are on individual issues.
I describe myself as a fiscally moderate, civil libertarian. I support the replacement of the income tax with the sales tax. I support the optional privatization of social security accounts, contingent on a clause protecting against a 'slippery slope' type deal(I don't want the only people alive in 100 years to be millionaires and accountants. How exciting would that be?)
However, I am not flexible on social issues. I firmly believe that the government should stay the hell out of people's personal lives. If homosexuals want to get married, how is it the states business(and don't give me the 'marriage is sanct' bullshit. In the eyes of the state, a marriage is a legal agreement. If private religious organizations want to pick and choose which marriages they view as 'sanct', that is perfectly fine.)? The war on drugs must be ended. Drug abuse is a public health issue, not a criminal matter. If a person has property rights to nothing else, than they should have them for their own goddamn bodies. Prostitution should be legal for the same reason, in addition to regulatory purposes(taxes, liscensing, mandatory std tests on a regular basis...).

I don't consider myself Republican or Democrat. I'm a registered Independent and I refuse to vote by party lines.
I believe heavily in local government. I am extremely pro-choice, and believe that abstinence only education is terrible. Hormonal (aka pill, patch, shot, etc..) birth control needs to be available at no-cost to any female who wants it, and parental consent laws regarding abortion need to be done away with. Health care should be provided by the government, and soft drug laws need to be changed.
I believe the government needs to put heavy restrictions and penalties on American companies outsourcing for their work/resources, stores like Walmart, that stock almost solely Asian made products, are killing the American worker. There needs to be incentives for companies to keep the majority of their business within the country.
When it comes to education, I believe 2 year public colleges should be free to any student that graduates or earns their GED. Standardized testing used to determine if a student can graduate (such as in states like Massachusetts, the MCAS exams) need to be done away with, or at least not used as a factor for graduation.
There's a lot more, but I'm baked and I'm tired of typing. I'll come back and add more in a bit.

Ron Paul 08'
non-intervention, no entangling alliances, throwback to principles in the constitution...
he can hold his own with some tough questions and defend ideas that hardly any other politician would speak outloud. he goes against what is easily accepted in washington dc with ideas that make sense and coincide with the way most citizens about the war
feels like the guy the young generation would want to win, as they seem to be open to more productive ideas than most of america, i feel anyways
no chance, but it's who i'd like to see win. what's crazy is that he's going for the republican nomination.
bunch of stuff on him on youtube

I think most of us old-timers have been there, done that many times over here. For folks who care to read it, here are mine, which come from one of our sticky threads at the top of this forum. I'm definitely left-leaning:

I'm trusting that this is an invitation to share with others what we believe, right, and not question others' beliefs? I encourage others to take this thread simply as an opportunity to get to know what others think and feel on the issues of our time and not debate or judge.

Republicans = Democrats = Sheep.
They're all the same, republicans are just bigger assholes.
What matters are the ISSUES.
MORE money for education and social services.
LESS money for war and prisons.
NO money for the WOD, or any other war unless we are attacked by a REAL (ie a Nation, not a theory) enemy.
END the systematic 'corporatization' of our economy, education, news media, food supply, transit system, health care, entertainment, transportation, etc.
START putting the people first, and corporate profit later.

I believe in a society where every person has a chance to succeed, to be all that they can be. So lets start with government. Less is more. We need to publicly fund elections at all levels and take private money out of the election process. That would give the average joe a chance of being elected (government of the people by the people for the people) Limit the slots for each office with a lottery type drawing IE you insert your application and 5-10 candidates for each office are drawn, then they present their views and the public can decide which best fits the countrys needs. Eliminate for good all the lobbiest. Make taking or offering bribes or graft a ten year term in state or federal prison, no exceptions. Now that we've cleaned up the election process lets move on to some precepts of governence. First, we would stop all agressive military actions (Wars) Bring the troops home and take care of them, that means pulling out of all countries abroad, Germany, Japan, S. Korea etc. we dont need to be in those places, our presence only stirs the shit. Then we would lock down our borders to stop all infiltrators. Put stiff penalties on corporations that hire illegals and extremely harsh penalties for evading hiring American workers or outsourcing. Apply fair taxation to corporations and have a fair tax for citizens, IE the more you make the higher the percentage of taxation. Then start working on America, that would put millions to work, rebuilding the infrastructure. With the money saved by shrinking the military alone we could rebuild America. We have enough military might. I'd cut the budget to about ten percent of what it is, so it would only be 50 Billion instead of 500 billion, that leaves 450 billion for social programs and infrastructure. I think with a full boquet of political figures, most of our social problems could be worked out, and with an absence of the two party system, there's less chance for corruption. By tasking corporations to get rid of illegals, there would be plenty of jobs for drop outs and speed freaks, maybe with opportunity would come hope and a chance to leave the terrible lifestyle of the speed addict. If not, then legalize speed and control the purity so they arent using pure poisen. The military gives speed to its personel when needed, Pilots in combat etc. Send illegals back to their countries, sorry charlie but you've got to go, apply like everyone else. There's so much more to the solution but I'll let these do for now.
