A thought on mindsets...

Today, my school had a meeting about prom (that I'm not going to), and our principal kept warning us not to do drugs and stupid things that we shouldn't be doing, etc. Every time he mentioned drugs (which I'm sure he was specifying marijuana), he said it in an angry, stern voice.

I realize that he, along with everyone in his generation is against marijuana, probably because of all the ignorance and propaganda. Most of those people don't know the facts, or they REFUSE to believe, no matter how much you try to drill them in (a lot of parents are this way too).

Well, our generation is much more educated (though we're still far from perfect) on marijuana, and more and more people are smoking, more and more people are accepting of smokers, and less and less people mind it. Do you think that by default, if our mindsets keep staying this 'liberal' with marijuana, that it will eventually be legalized/decriminalized that way? I'm sure that no matter what we do now, we won't get it to be legal across the country any time soon (sorry to burst your bubble, lol), but like I said, do you think that with our generation's open mindset, that things could change that way?

I'm assuming that's what happened in a lot of Europe (spain, holland, amsterdam, etc.) Correct me if I'm wrong, please!

Forgot to add, a lot of todays pot smokers or pot smokers' friends could be tomorrow's politicians :)

Oh yeah I definitely know what you're talking about...I'll show up to school after a well-deserved 'wake & bake' and have all the portuguese conservative girls look at me in disgust and make some snide remark, or when I saw these 2 girls that never did any drugs start smoking cigarettes I told them "what are you doing? Why do you smoke cigarettes?"

and they'll respond with "well why do you smoke weed, it's so much worse."

then I'll throw a few facts their way and they'll just shut up, or just say "whatever" and leave..

that's the thing I was talking about, people dont' like to accept the facts, they like to ignore them or refuse to believe them..

Fuck I smoke to get high, I smoke to feel good, I smoke to relax, I smoke to socialize, I smoke to get to know people better (I'm shy when I'm sober), I smoke to stay away from alcohol (i like being drunk and all, but I don't like what I do), etc.

Sure cigarettes have their social benefits and help pass time (Trust me, when I used to smoke ciggs, all we'd do sometimes is walk around town smoking and talking, but it felt pretty good...certainly not the same as if we walked and talked WITHOUT smoking...it definitely adds a bit socially, but it's not worth it).

The tokers and their friends of the 60's and 70's ARE todays politicians........so what has changed? We still have to wait for the "Reefer Madness" crowd to pass on.

Once more and more people start to realize the truths, we will be closer to legalization, or at least decriminalization, on the federal level. It's not impossible to teach these people. It's hard, though. I used to be where they are at, but a good friend enlightened me after many intense arguments over the internet. It's all about showing them the facts, not telling them. You've got to show them good, hard evidence. You can't blame them, though. They've been conditioned to believe the government, and authority figures, and not sway from average line of thought. You cannot be rude about it, either, or they will get defensive.

I can't believe that they use "Weed is worse than cigarettes" as an argument for it being bad. That's probably the worst argument anybody could make, lol.

nah man, they're not politicians, they're burnt-out, unemployed, unproductive hippies still living with their parents!

but i highly doubt that yesterday's tokers actually got involved politically. Most of them probably majored in other things (if they even completed their majors). Keep in mind, tokers of back in the day were more for activism, today's tokers are much more casual. For the most part, today's tokers just smoke and have fun, while people from the 60's toked, but also gathered in huge rallies to protest all kinds of things, from college campuses, to the streets, from the war in vietnam, to legalization, they actually got up and did stuff...today's tokers complain online but don't do anything...for the most part.

Hey I send letters to congress, I send letters to my local representatives, etc. Most people aren't bothered enough to do that.

Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Obama ALL admitt to toking just to mention a few and what did it get us.....Clinton actually esculated the war on drugs 10 fold!

If people of yesterday were to be asked what a drug dealer was they'd probably have said some burnt out hippy getting high having sex all day. Today if people were asked they'd probably say some punk wearing a blue or red scarf with a 9mm in their pants. THAT is one of the MAJOR problems with the movement today. We got a violent element involved that is being related to the toking scene.

Also, we didn't talk of ripping people off in order to buy a bag........I can't count how many times I've seen that type of garbage here on this forum that does nothing but give the rest of us a bad name. There was a thread in here about a week ago on how some dude felt bad about pinching a bag he bought for someone else. THEN there was an assclown reply stating that he made it common practice! Just one of many sort of b.s. posts/threads about the rip-off issue.

We were much further on the way of changing laws in the past than today.......when the "older crowd" relates weed usage to violence and thievery there is very little hope for change. Not like the old days when your kid was a peaceful hippy type...now the parents are scared shitless that they may have a gun in their face or that lil' precious popped someone on the street.

I commend you on shouting out to the politicians though.......more people should!:thumbsup:
