Hey from the Hudson Valley/Catskills
Anyone around? Just moved back for the summer from grad school after being away for quite awhile, most of my old friends are gone, just looking for chill people around the region who are like minded and know the code. It's sucking ass around here so far, and living a few miles from Woodstock (the town and the festival site) I know there has to be some culture around here...where ya'll at?
I'm Chris, man...so that's what you call me...or Chriserito, the Chrisness. I'm not trying to scam anybody here, man...ummm...just trying to stay sane. I play guitar, go to shows when I have the cash, and earn my keep doing odd jobs, and I love the Big Lebowski (in case you couldn't tell), bowling, darts, and whatever else is clever.

Sup acheiver, I'm just the other side of the Berkshires from you, a hundred miles to the east.
Oh... I have to ask... Mets or Yankees? :wtf:

No idea where that is, but I've heard of Woodstock. Lebowski's not my favourite Coen's Bro movie, but I like it! My favourite is Hudsucker Proxy. I'm bowled over as to know how everyone else apart from me sussed out you were a fan though. Welcome from me.

Welcome. I don't live up there, but spent many a summer in upstate NY as a kid, and continue to visit every few years as an adult. The beautiful scenery is great, especially for fall foliage season. My parents' families were settled there since hundreds of years ago, and I still have relatives that reside there.
The town of Woodstock was not where the 1969 festival was held. The location was changed from Woodstock, in Ulster County, to Bethel, Sullivan County, which is 50 miles away from the town of Woodstock.

Nice.
I am aware that the town is not where the festival was held; hence the distinction (the town and the festival site) in my original post. I'm located equidistant between both of them. The village is nice, and Bethel is very scenic with its rolling hills and green pastures. The new Performing Ars Center is nice. I live in Sullivan County, just inside the Catskill Park.
I always have to correct people because they make the same mistake you thought I made. It's all good, tho.

Great place to be!
Ironically, as you know, many of the town of Woodstock's shops sell souvenirs and memorabilia of the festival - most tourists probably don't realize that it wasn't held there.
In the 18th century, Woodstock had different boundaries, in Greene County, and they changed in the 19th century. It's very confusing. I had it written out on paper a few years ago, when I was doing some genealogy, but can't remember where I put it.
Many people don't realize that upstate New York was a frontier, and still has a lot of untouched rural areas.
