1st indoor grow...
Alright, I have grown 3 plants successfully outdoors, 1, two years a ago, and 2 last season. Now, I am trying for indoor.
What I have:
- 8x3.5x1.5 closet
- good soil - perlite/humus/peat moss etc.
- bagseed for my 1st attempt
- 400w HPS (about to buy MH conversion bulb also)
Planned:
- Timer
- Mylar
- Plywood door replacement
- Bodom's Carbon scrubber
- 4'' duct - 6'' vortex inline 449 cfm (duct will run from ballast, up through a 4'' hole cut into the top of the plywood door, and up, out through a recessed light hole into the attic, where the carbon scrubber will be)
- Passive intake system, sides of door sealed w/ foam weather stripping, 1/2(?) 1-2'' holes cut at bottom of door.
Questions:
- What is best for babies? MH or CFM? (I know MH for sure for veg, but will the seedling be ok?)
- Any comments/forseeable problems so far? I'm really concerned with my ventilation being adequate. How bad will the 4'' duct affect the pull of the 6'' vortex (pushing up into the scrubber?)
- Any good non-ribbed duct?
- Bodom/anybody who has used it, how well does that filter work? 80-90-100% of smell gone?

1st indoor grow...
well the answer to question 1 is mh is best for the veg stage, but i believe u are mistaken on the cfm reference, cfm is the amount of airflow a fan has, u may be refering to hps which is best for flowering.
for question 2, id say ud need some nutrients, start giving them nitrogen rich fertilizer a few weeks after germination then switch to high phosphurus when flowering. also add a small osillating fan to blow over the top of the plants to simulate wind.
as for the last two questions i cant help ya cuz i dont use em

Thanks. Yeah, lol I meant CFL (not CFM) there, Should I go with some CFL bulbs for a while or not bother and just start em' with the MH?
Oscillating fan. check.
I also have some Max-sea ready. (used it on last years plants, amazing.)
Prolly a dumb question.......but is there any difference between nutes and fertilizer? Or are they just the same thing being called different names? I have a feeling fert. is for soil, nutes more for hydro/directly for plant.....

Between cfls and mh, the main point to made is cost you can get a 26w cfl with 1,700 lumens for about 3 dollars, they are more efficent so u can use more, on the other hand mh produces much more light but draws more power, so id say use cfl you wont have to vent as much also.

oh also i dont think theres a difference between fert and nutes some can be used for both so i guess u got to read the label.
