Haha dammit all to hell. If just HAD to be the 17th year..I'm going to a music festival this weekend too, and they've already warned us that millions...yes, millions of these things will be coming OUT of the ground. Good thing they're harmless, but they are loud as shit. I think I read it was comparable to a rock concert, funny enough we'll be at them...
I dunno though, cuz I've been having nightmares where I'm camping and my tent is just layered in cicadas...
I fuckin' hate those bastards buzzing all summer long...
haha that sucks that ur goin to a concert lol. your gonna hear buzzing and crunching all night along with the music. thatl be a little distracting. but do u guys think theyll eat my plants?
I dunno I'd prolly try and find out what they eat beforehand just to be sure. I'm pretty sure they stay in trees or fly around though...
uggh tommarow at gym all im gonna hear is buzzbuzz crunchcrunch because my teacher told us we are for sure going outside. damnit
they bury themselves at the base of trees so if you just planted something it is not likely theye will be near it... I just looked it up and they do their damage by sucking sap as their mouths are to small to eat leaves... they also damage by cutting slits in branches to lay eggs...
they are tasty too...
Cicada Stir-Fry:
Ingredients
minced onion, coriander (cilantro), fresh gingerroot
sliced carrots, chopped cauliflower and/or broccoli
water chestnuts and/or other vegetables of your choice
bean sprouts and snow peas
blanched, teneral cicadas
In a wok or other suitable pan, heat a couple tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add ingredients in the order listed above when those in the most recent addition are partially cooked. Serve over whole-grain (â??brownâ?) rice and add soy sauce to taste.
Them things were big in the Quad Cities (Ill./Iowa border) when I lived down there.......sounds like the power lines are getting ready to explode. They're big bastards too!
Have a good one!
My eight year old sister keeps telling me that all these bad things will happen to me...then after she's sees that I'm visabilly upset, she'll comfort me and tell me that they're harmless, "but only 1.5 inches big!"
I love her...yet hate her...
My Mom told me she used to tie them to a long string and buzz them around like a mini remote airplane...
We had them here 4 years ago,,,but I think there are many kinds,,,like a 13 year one and a 17 year a green one and a black and red one... and yeah the sound is fucking annoying...
