Your favorite book in the Bible

I know there's a lot of atheists on this board but you don't have to be Christian to appreciate the Bible or it's impact on literature in the western civilization. So what's you favorite book or books in the Bible?

Mine is Ecclesiastes and the Book of Job. I like Ecclesiastes because it really more than any other book questions existence and the meaning of life. My favorite passage says something like everyone envies those who do not exist and I've always really agreed with that. And the Book of Job really explores the concept of evil and why bad things happen to good people. It's the most interesting one and I really respect and admire Job. I also like when they talked about it in that South Park episode where Cartman gets a theme park. Kyle sums it up nicely "Why would god do such horrible things to a person just to prove a point to Satan?" to which he is replied to with "Oh, I don't know." Got to love South Park. Seriously. Love it.

Revelations. hands down. It's the only book of the bible I'm actually tempted to pick up and flip through on rare occasions.

Id have to say revelations too cause the dicipels say alot of stuff.

I also like Ecc and Job. But you can't deny the power of the Psalms.

"Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works."

The Book of Psalms is about praise.

"Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD."

"Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD."

Revelations... i need a good laugh every once in a while...

I've had to disect the bible outside of religous contexts in english class before in probably 8th grade... All I remember thinking is wow, these metaphores are unbelievably boring and obvious. Once you remove all the religion from the picture... it's just a long, really shitty book

actually it's a bunch of smaller shitty books all crammed together, with a fancy cover and a catchy title.

First of all Bible means book so that's not very catchy. Second of all the Bible has impacted writers and thinkers for thousands of years. I'm not positive how or why but somebody else can tell you. Even if you don't agree with any of what it says you have to look at it as a piece of art. I mean look at the things it's inspired the Sistine Chapel and other shit I can't think of. Sure the books can a little boring and far-fetched but I always look at it as parables to live your life by. So you're doing yourself a disservice by writing off the Bible as wiping paper and nothing else.

I really can't see how people can view the bible as having a positive impact on western civilization... Honestly, has any good come from that bullshit book? Can people not understand that art is fully capable of being nice and pretty without some fucking delusional Christian theme?
