fifty gallon drum w/gravity fed drip system?or perhaps using the wick method.another good idea is to use "p4" water storing granule's in your soil mix.

I don't know what you rainfall is like, but you can maximize the water retention from the rains by adding lost of organic amendments, adding water crystals, and adding mulch. Adding these three, will make a huge difference in how much growth you can get without any major irrigation system. Also getting them out early after the last frost is important in getting the most growth possibe without much watering.

so do u think its even worth putting the plants up theyre.. because i think even if we get the watering down what if it starts getting attacked by bugs then im gonna have to come up the next weekend with pesticides and by that time the whole crop could be gone

once a week should be fine you might consider adding water crystals and mulch like RonnieRay mentioned but plants are fairly tough and can often survive the dry spells between rainfall just fine.
im sure bug problems can occur sometimes just not something ive ever had a problem with and you may not have a problem with it either.
