Sexy, Professional E-mail address?.......!
Ok, let me briefly explain why I have experience with this. I work in business. Let's just say I deal with a lot of people on a daily basis.
My question is...do you really think I'm going to call you back for an interview if you call me up, sound moderately professional (or try to), and then when you give me your contact information, it consists of:
Name Smith
Address
Phone
[email protected] or [email protected]
Seriously... :wtf:
Can you not set up a professional email account (i.e. [email protected]) for your job hunt? Just a suggestion.
Sorry, I'm kind of ranting today a bit, eh?

Sexy, Professional E-mail address?.......!

Or, just don't give out your email to your boss.

Its funny how cannabis users hate to be judge for smoking, but don't mind passing judgment over someone else. I know you're in the business field hombre, and i know presentation is everything, but as someone who lives on the fringes of the law, do you really care what the persons email address is, even more so should you? One would imagine that email addresses are used for contact purposes only.
But this is coming from someone with a first.lastname@emailaddress. so what do i know :)

I only give out my school email.

I have like 10 different email addresses for different purposes. It's like people lack common sense.

Good question, Skrappie! :) However, first of all, I never said that I hated to be judged for smoking. Hey! I live in Cannabis Land, remember?
Problem is, your username usually says a lot about you.
Quick side-note:
I am currently reading a book that discusses "thin slicing." In this book, a psychologist did some experiments on the accuracy of the "first impression." It is really much more complicated than that, but let's keep it simple. What he discovered was that a group of people could judge, with STUNNING accuracy, the effectiveness/personality of a University professor, when given just 2 seconds of video of that professor (with the sound OFF). These results were amazingly similar to those given by students who had taken a full semester with those professors.
Now, don't take that by itself alone, there are many more studies and explanations that I won't bore you with. The point is, that first impressions usually are very accurate when you know how to read people.
That being said, what does it say when you are approached by a person who wants a job/position in a professional setting, and they give you that type of email address. They picked it, did they not. That says something about them. They put "party" or "69" or "420" or any other thing in their email address (most of the time a FREE email address) and they don't have the common sense to create another one for business purposes?
I'll tell you what that says. It says they are either not the right person for the job, because they can't keep their professional life and their personal life separate...or it says that they DON'T CARE what people think about them.
Now I know that I'm opening a WHOLE new discussion here where I know lots of people will say "I don't care what people say! I am who I am...blah blah." I disagree wholeheartedly with that attitude. When I was a young teen, I had the same attitude. I wore black clothes, frayed pants, played hackeysack, skated, smoked pot...all that stuff. And at that time, I didn't give a fuck what you thought about me. Oddly enough, I was unable to earn respect in certain circumstances...what a surprise!
Now, I've owned several businesses and been in business since I was 17, so I've learned from personal experience that appearance counts for a LOT. I could care less what people do in their personal lives, as long as it does not affect their work. Hell, I smoke (for medicinal AND recreational purposes), but you would never know this when I'm working. Whether it's legal or illegal is irrelevant, you don't come to work smelling like alcohol and acting drunk (well, most professionals don't). In regular life, I don't consider myself a criminal, nor do I live on the "fringes of the law." I just smoke some herbs. It's all good.
Sorry for the long winded post, but if you know me, I'd rather do it this way than post 4 or 5 posts that cumulatively say what I said here (I hope I didn't forget anything). :D Then again, how many people will really read this...? Probably not the ones who should! ;)
