(CBS/AP) Tens of thousands draped themselves in Iraqi flags and marched peacefully through the streets of two Shiite holy cities Monday to mark the fourth anniversary of Baghdad's fall. Demonstrators were flanked by two cordons of police as they called for U.S. forces to leave, shouting "Get out, get out occupier!"

Security was tight across Iraq, with a 24-hour ban on all vehicles in Baghdad starting from 5 a.m. Monday. The government quickly reinstated the day as a holiday, rescinding its weekend order that had decreed that April 9 no longer would be a day off.

The Najaf rally was ordered by Muqtada al-Sadr, the powerful Shiite cleric who a day earlier issued a statement ordering his militiamen to redouble their battle to oust American forces, and argued that Iraq's army and police should join him in defeating "your archenemy."

LMAO! 80%? SPIN, SPIN, SPIN........The Shiite consist of 60% and by the numbers it doesn't look like they all quite made it to the piss fest.

Next, this showed the country that the could actually have such a demonstration without the fear of Saddams thugs coming in killing off half the bunch.

Al-Sadr's comment: "and argued that Iraq's army and police should join him in defeating "your archenemy." LOL...at the current time they Iraqi Army along with U.S. forces are cleaning his army out of the streets of Bagdad not to mention other places. But yet with these words it seems that the surge is still going strong against his force and that the RECOGNIZED government troops aren't dropping their guns.

All and all, I'd say this is a sign of progress.........a peaceful demonstration and a radical cleric that clearly isn't winning the hearts of the moderate Shiite in Iraq. :thumbsup:

P4B must have his head in the sand if he thinks AL-SADRs army is being cleaned out of Bghdad and other places.Al-Sadrs army will never stop ever until every last American is of Muslim land.These people have nothing but their honour and their land and they will not give up either for anyone.And once they learn that American oil companies have total control over Iraq oil you can expect more killings in the future.Thats why American forces will have to stay in Iraq forever,to protect the oil companies interests.So how does it feel to have your kids come home in body bags for fucking oil???

I wasn't including the Kurds that have their own thing going on, I doubt that the Kurds need any help and they will repel any military advances done by the "Iraqi Army", or the shiite militia. I think they have secured a zone at their southern border and really don't want anything to do with the Iraqi govt. That reverts back to my contention that the only solution to Iraq is the three separate nation scenario, otherwise you have Civil War expanding into other countries.

Today their was more bombings in Baghdad killing 200 people,so much for the surge.I thought things were going well i thought you could walk down the street and feel safe?Hell you can go to the market and buy 5 rugs for 20$.Rugs are cheap but i guess life is cheaper.

In name only. They would cut and run back to Kurdistan to defend it againt the Sunnis and Shiites in a heartbeat. Don't forget, it was basically Sunnis that gassed them. those animosities dont die easily. They have everything they need in the North, especially Oil revenue. They don't need the south, and don't want it. They have been protected from Sadam since right after Gulf 1. They have been recipients of aid and protection from America for years. When you talk about how great the kurds are doing as a positive about Iraq, you should also state the above. they were not a part of the bombing and destruction that encompassed the south, they were on our side from the gates!

They actually do need the south just in name alone. Iran, Syria, and Turkey have stated from the get go that an independent Kurdistan would NOT be permitted. I agree with ya that their loyalties would be with the homeland over the southern parts though.

I'm pretty sure if we split up Iraq into the three factions, the US would protect the kurds from Syria, Iran and Turkey, especially if we opened Dialog with those countries. The real Bottom line here is: We have no business in the middle east at all. Make Oil deals and let them sort it out. Whomever comes out on top will still have to sell their oil somewhere, and being as dependent on carbon based fuels as we are, we would definently be bidding for their oil. I still say if we want to flex our muscles, we should blockade the ports and demand 25.00 a barrel oil or nothing moves, but that makes too much sense, so we have to start a war so the corporations can profit, go figure.

With that plan there would be a pissed off Iran, Syria and Turkey not to mention that the Sunni in the center would be cut off from basically all oil revenue. All the yip, yap in the world wouldn't solve that one.

As for the blockade........lol.....I guess I'm not all that much for dictating policy on our fellow man. LMAO! j/k BUT that's what would be stated if such an act was to take place.....you know it as well as me.:thumbsup:
