I've never heard someone use it in that sense, but I think if I did I would think they were stupid.
Maybe it's just the people i know. Personally though i've never heard the word used correctly in conversation.

Uhh actually, in french, ignore something can mean to not know about something or to don't care about it. So ignorant is used for idiot. Well, not idiot, but ya know, ignorant :rolleyes:
I've heard people use it when they mean someone isn't very smart. But never when referring to ignoring someone/something.
