Germinate your seeds on a damp paper towel on a plate placed inside a baggie. The top of the fridge is a good spot. Next, don't use Miracle Grow potting mix- from what I hear almost anything is better for pot. Don't buy cheap potting mix. Add perlite to your mix. Start your sprouted seeds in small paper cups. Transplant later to one gallon pots, then to as big as you can get- I use these nice $4, 19 gallon, rubber maid-type tubs from Walmart- they are 2 feet wide and fit my closet perfectly. Drill holes in the bottom and use the lid to catch the run-off. I put 2 plants per tub.
Lights- I'd suggest, since you are likely on a tight budget, some CFLs- those "curly" bulbs. The big ones run about $8 each. Walmart has several sizes. I found some "flattened" looking ones that are blueish in color- good for vegging. While the regular column-shaped ones are warmer in color- better for buds. Do not use regular light bulbs- the light is all wrong to grow plants.
More light is better. I started with just a few tube flouros and added more every couple of weeks until I hit 400 watts. Then I added some CFLs. Yes, you can grow cannabis to maturity with just CFLs and/or tube lights. HPS etc are better, but you can grow without them. And flouros won't burn you if you hit them- a plus when you are gardening ripped out of your gourd! Nor will they burn your plants unless they are actually touching them. Keep your light close to your plants 1-2 inches for tubes, a bit more for CFLs.
When your seedlings are small, give them 24/7 light. The leaves will be in pairs for the first few sets of leaves. Eventually, they will begin to alternate, there will be one leaf and then, a little higher up, another on the opposite side. Give them another week or two at 24/7 and then switch to 12/12. You will need a timer for this stage. Check hardware stores for a sale- again about $3-$4. About 8 to 10 weeks after going to the 12/12 schedule, your buds will be ready.
OK, that's the bare bones of growing. This is a good site for beginners- Marijuana Growing Guide Free Library Easy to use with LOTS of info. Read as much as you can on grow reports and the infirmary.
Don't be afraid to ask questions! None of us were born knowing how to grow cannabis (although a few seem to have forgotten that fact)! We all were newbies once! Keep learning and happy harvest! - Granny:hippy:
