Myspace musicians (semi-rant)
This is a dicussion for any bands or solo musicians like myself who post their stuff on myspace.
Much like the mainstream industry that spawned the phenomena, myspace has become less and less about the music and more and more about statistics and figures. When was the last time a band or artists "added" you because they enjoyed your sound and wanted to share their appreciation with you? While this might have been the case in the early days of the site, before the mainstream closed it's slimy grip around it and made it a phenomena, musicians don't so much want to share music but get theirs heard at any cost. Hurry, you need to add more bands to your network. Quick, send out more banner comments and bulletins about your latest gig. Hurry and add some more people. They will DEFINITELY listen and enjoy.
Umm... No, because they share the same perspective as you. In little more than unfathomable displays of desperation, artists care little about social networking or sharing of ideas and simply about slamming themselves in your face. Politeness or musicians principles matter not, if it happened to Arctic Monkeys, than surely your below average, teenybop garage setup will attract 2 in the 50 people you shamelessly spam everyday. That is the way forward right?
In no time at all, myspace music has become a cesspit of cool image and high figures to attract attention. Your position in the listings depends entirely on your history of views, adds and listens. The result is an ever growing circulation of intrusive advertising and soulless networking that amounts to nothing. The future of the industry? Most probably.
PS: If anyone would be interested in adding me, it'd be highly decent of you to listen to my music first and decide whether i'd gain any benefit from yours. Sorry if it's out of the question.
BB out

Ultravisitor is the live album and is mindblowing. For hectic, hectic squarepusher style beatage, try 'Do you know squarepusher?'.
I have the discography, but I remember those two being consistently sick.

I like myspace music for the fact that my friends' bands get local recognition and more people come to their shows. And if local bands in my area didn't have one, i'd never know when their shows are

I know what your saying about the statistic shit.
I just use it so people who want to hear my shit can, even though I hate myspace.
BTW BB, love the music.
and I hope myspace is not the future of the industry.
