Politics in Music
Hi, What does anyone on these boards think about political based music, personally I'm a fan and think it works well when the artist actually cares about the issue they are on about .(any one seen that new live aid single?.....got me thinking, theres a few on that who look like they are there for a bit of self promo)
Some of my favorite artists write on almost 100% political issues like RATM ( www.ratm.com ), Immortal Technique ( http://www.newprohibition.com/imtech/bio.shtml ) , Paris ( http://www.guerrillafunk.com/paris/ ) and for a a good bit of social comment there is always Frank Zappa ( http://www.zappa.com/splash.html )..........
I know there are alot more artists, alot from before my time........
But anyway, anyone else into mixing politics with music or do you think that musicians should stick to just music?
Peace

I think it depends how well the message is brought across. American Idiot by green day is poo. 18 and life by skid row is good.

I think it's awesome. Music needs passion. Socialism and rights need a voice.
Unfotuantly thier is an evil... Pop music, which targets impretionable youth, and conveys materialistic values, because some of this music is abused. if you can call it music.
Music is wonderful and so is philosophy. They make an amazing mix when put together properly.

It can be good...but most musicians all are on one side makeing it kinda lopsided when it comes to expressing political views
