i just thought of this, haven't even considered trying it, but just throwing it out there....
what if you took several of those round fluorescent lamps (the circular kind), stacked em up on top of each other, and threw a plant in the middle? assuming adequate ventilation and proper care, could this be effective? how effective would it be?
let's say something like in the pic, but not with that big ass ballast or whatever, stack em up on top of each other and grow a plant in the middle
Hey, it sounds like a good idea, but unnecessary since you would only be able to fit young plants (1 week maybe 2) inside the bulbs. I don't think they make round fluorescents wider than maybe 6". And since young plants don't really need as much light, its just unnecessary.
let's say i vegged a plant for a week or so in there, then started flowering... i would trim off all side growth so i basically have a stick of weed growing in the middle.
it would get consistent 360 degree lighting to all parts of the plant, which can't be a bad thing...
i think i've seen those lights also bigger than 6" maybe up to 12" but i don't know for sure.
i'm gonna try it after i win the florida lottery tomorrow.

nice idea i actually though of this when i was buying lights at the market. but due to the circular flos being small its not worth it. also its not very manuverable and having several compact flos in the sides and top is much better since you direct all light right onto the plant as opposed to losing some from the other side of the round flo that doesnt see the plant and the round flos dont come in high wattages i think..
but very cool idea
I think that cutting off all the side growth would negate any benefits you'd be reaping from that.
if you combined this technique with the cannabis-vine technique, it could work. the plant would literally grow straight up the middle.
1 Round fluorescents, do to the inside of the bulb being the least amount of light emited from the bulb.
2 Most use a electronic ballast , which is the cheapest way to light a bulb , and fastest to deminish the bulbs life.
3 The object ot grow is to get the most amount of light per watt.
That is why industry uses a mag ballast and 2,4,8 ft florsents.
The same goes for CPF, most of the bulbs output is reflective not direct.
This way is quite common for kids to grow pot, but one of the least efficent way to grow.
Watts always wins, Watts are always the bottom line.

those round lamps are expensive
ive seen those round flros. at the home dpot jus a couple hrs ago that are 18" 32watts soft white,cool white. the only thing is that the socket is on the side you would have to space them about 4 in. away frm each other. IMO i would put jus one at the top of the chamber or two side by side dependin on ur space and add cfls on the sides 6-8 evenly spaced but if ur going with an expriment go for it.or drop it right over a scrog with the cfls at the same level. good luck:thumbsup:
