Got 8 gals going, 3 of them are just so far behind in their growth, that vegging them until they're big enough is gonna leave the other 5 much too tall. So I'm thinking of topping the crap out of the 5 to compensate a little for all the branches I was hoping would grow out of the 3 small ones but don't look like they will unless I wait another 3 weeks, giving the 5 another week of veg to recover, and then flowering them. I also need to get some clones before going into flower - can I use the toppings for that?

imo, tops are harder to root than side shoots; don't know why, that's just what experience has shown me.

though once rooted, they will grow. so, yes, you can use tops for clones...

hmm, I would have thought they would be prime choice for clones. Interesting

Thats because the horomones at the top of the plant are concentrating ong veg growth, side shoots closer to the bottom are closer to the roots so hold more of those horomones. I do find though that top cuttings are more compact, and side/bottom cuttings grow a little more stretched. I find they clone the same with my technique.

Thought they might be harder. I have a bunch of clones just for sexing them, and though I haven't bothered taking care of them because they were meant to be thrown away after revealing sex, I notice the two tops haven't rooted while the side shoots have. Though they might have if I'd taken more care of them, they haven't coped as well as the side shoots.

Hi KP nice to see you are back ..... I would agree with KP the tops don't take as well sometimes .... not that you can't take them. I do .... but I have lost a couple .... don't know why they didn't take .... but they didn't. But the ones that do come out are very nice.
