So yea, we now got this theory about little strings of energy connecting atoms and such to each other, thus creating the Universe.

I actually watched that program a little while ago. And I've read most of the book of the same name as well. It's really fascinating shit, and it looks like a promising theory, but I'm not going to be entirely convinced until they can actually muster up some experimental evidence.
