ok well, i figured you might be curious as to what major bugs there are (no i'm not really asking for help to take care of 'em lol... i pretty much know these bugs are only gonna be fixed by patches and updates)
1. sometimes windows won't open like they should... like with tabs on IE7, you open a new tab but it won't load the page, won't do nothing, it just opens up a completely blank page (no bar at the bottom or info or anything) i'll take a screen shot next time to show you what i mean) when that happens, you also can't right click anything (menu won't come up) can't restart your computer through the task bar (task bar will be completely blank) you have to crtl alt and del and it takes you to a menu (doesn't just bring up task manager) and you have ot restart from that screen to get rid of it.
2. sometimes while posting, pages will just start opening, about one page a second, and does not stop, if you close one with the x, it'll open up 3 more lol... so you gotta restart for that too...
those are very common btw... after a couple of hours you'r garunteed to get one or the other...
there's a couple other small ones i can't bring up to my mind atm...
then there's the compatibility issues... nearly EVERYTHING has an issue with this, all games especially, you can by pass it pretty easily, but you can no longer just double click the shortcut on the desktop for the game and have it run right... for instance, with BF2 i have to right click and choose "run as administrator" or i'll get an error as soon as i join a match called "insufficient O/S privleges", i also had to download soem type of program first and run it to get the game configured to be compatible...
a couple other games i've had to go to properties on the shortcut, and the compatibility tab and selet "windows xp"... but basicly, everything takes some ammount of tweaking to get to work (other then direct microsoft products such as word, or windows media player)
also, alot of non-microsoft products you have to actually right click and select "run as administrator" or it won't work right... nothing any longer opens up with double clicking as owner or administrator.. anything double clicked opens up as a restricted users privleges... now there is a way to open it as administrator by double clicking, but that DOES NOT work like it should.. (btw you have to set every shortcut as that individually, it's through the properties, there's not some general setting you can set) i put the shortcut to BF2 as always open as administrator, then double clicked the tab after a restart and verifying it was still set as that, and still got the same message....
so there you go, my experience so far with vista... you had mentioned you knew basicly nothing about vista as of yet, so i figured you might wanna know...

oh yeah that's another thing (just happened to me..) for soem reason, every once in awhile the internet will disconnect it's self... you try to open a page and you get offline message you get wehn you click "work offline" in xp and try to open a page not in your history... not really that bothersome since all you gotta do is click 'connect'...
also, it takes a bit of work to get a xp computer and a vista computer on the same network... vista is using some new protocol for networking that xp doesn't reconize, if you ever have problems getting them on the same network let me know i can solve it realitively fast since i had to do it...

ok i can't do that either... apparently when the not beign able to open more tabs kicks in, you can't open paint or it says "failed to create empty document"

Thanks Slip.... sounds like it's going to be a while before I delve... some of that stuff sounds like memory errors,,,keep an eye on the task manager and see if something is leaking memory... IE7 is not the greatest either I back all my machines out of it and using 6 again...
if MS is going to try and control Piracy at least make it work before you sell it :hippy: :hippy: :hippy: Administrator privilege,,,I am the F$#%in Administrator!!!LOLz...
Thanks I am interested in what is happening,,,I got a friend that is going to be needing a puter and she is gonna get a Dell,,,I told her I will wipe it and put her xp on it but,,,she is afraid and wants to keep Vista...

trust me she doesn't wanna keep vista lol... figure out how to dual boot it... it can get really annoying... and someone who doesn't know what's going on exactly is gonna be like "omg!! help! my computer is broken" lol... usually all is ok with a restart, but even that can be complicated... (remember, durring one of the major errors you can't see anything on the start menu)
and i don't have a clue what you mean by leaking memory, i'm not that computer literate... i have a decent understanding but i'm far from a pro lol.. my knowledge goes about as far as basic knowledge and internet access... i can diagnose and solve lots of problems so long as i know how to get around on the O/S and i have internet...
it's filled with bugs... but quite honestly, it's alot more stable then windows ME ever was.... the stability is less than XP SP2, but far better then ME lol...

Task Manager> Processes>third column is CPU usage 4th column is memory usage... look at them when thing are going good then when shit goes pear look and see if something is excessively high...

man I used ME for soo long and didn't think it was half bad til many years later after using XP and I realized... still I think ME was about as good as Windows 2k

yeah lets hope :p cuz XP was like a gigantic step over ME... if they can do that same thing again, with vista... they might have the most stable, easy to use, decoratvie/visual apeasing, operating system ever made... i hold alot of doubt... lets just hope lol..

oh and don't get me wrong.. vista is alot better in some ways.. it's easier to use, more 'helpful' to the average user (a very good percent of people who buy acomputer, have no idea about protection, it doesn't work as well as i'm sure they thought they were goign to do [it's alot more annoying then helpful] but you can plainly see hwo they were trying to implement a security system.... this non piracy crap is well... crap so far lol.. i've yet to get any warning about it, or anything.. i can still use p2p programs, bittorrents, everything, perfectly fine with no problems...
for someone going from OS to OS it takes a bit to learn.. (alot is redesigned or moved around, everything on XP is still there, just in a diffrent spot) but as far as OS's go, it's the easiest to use so far... and i've been using comps since the one before windows 95.... 3.1? i can't remember the name, but i know a friend a good whiel back, had a comp, the first i was ever on matter of fact.. then i got a hand me down from my aunt with 95... then, got my own comp with ME... then got another with XP (my last one) and now of course vista..
vista is the cleanest and easiest to use, and in time i think it can be as good as XP... but as of right now, i only suggest it to those with patients or who understands i'ts the os's fault and not ther comps or they're gonna be running to a computer shop or the help line like 10 times a day lmao....

my wife's comp is xp and mine is vista.. i'm already over it... but i can show you the solution relatively fast if it's needed... i can tell you now, it's going t ohave problems... cuz vista is using a whole new protocol... something xp doesn't reconize...
the first time i turned it on, everything was ok.. all my old files (from my old comp) i put on my wifes comp, and was able to get them with no problem... but then, the next time we tried to do antyhing that linked them together (namely printing, but soon realized her comp wasn't showing up on my network and vice versa anymore anywyas, nothing systemly changed.. dunno how i managed to get my files off her comp in the first place)
had to download a file and install it on the xp computer so it could reconize vista, still had some problems, but from that point is where the wife took over...
anyways we've went through it... sure we could solve it a hell of a lot faster for yal if you have the problem.... cuz we went through it already...

oh no they run...
just takes a a couple of manual configurations and a diffrent way of opening it (if playing online)
first, if the game won't run just as a double click (def. won't work for online games) you have to go to properties > compatibility and set is as "run as compatibile with XP SP2"
for online games, you merely have to right click to open it and click "run as administrator"... the properties tab does have a check box to click of "always open as administrator" but it doesn't work..
not really anything major... a few extra clicks to get a game working, definately not a problem.

Vista also deletes XPs NTLDR boot loader, so it will always boot into Vista, you can get round it tho with a program off the net that adds it back

Well it's good to know that Vista is at least liveable... I will wait till all the software catches up wit the OS... I like media but I'm not a freak and def not a gamer... all the progs i use are not Vista compatible and I need to wait till they somewhat are...

I hear ya man...I refrained from the idea of Vista cause I thought I wouldn't be able to use a lot of my everyday things...but even things that don't seem to be meant for vista have been working for me...just running a lot of my older programs off of my slave disk...on old xp install. I lucked out :D

it took me a long time to get to where I have no probs and i enjoy my computer and all the things it does... If I got Vista for free and it was a stipulation I would have to get rid of XP,,, I would turn it down...
My server package is running great right now but...where I got the sever package the forum is loaded with post like " HELP! I got Vista and My server don't work...

new, easier fix... just restart explorer.exe.

ME was the start of XP so lets hope Vista is the predecessor of something good...
Maybe vista will lead to Windows Veranda or something...I'd like to see where the naming goes.
