So how did this site come about?

And are the mods the webmasters or what?

Ron was the Webmaster untill last year, then he sold up to sundance.
There arn't many people stil here from when it first started, there were some good people.
Oh well times change :)

I think it stemed off Marihemp.com
Like Baked.com did from here

mods are chosen by other mods, and sundance gives the final approval....when we think we need new mods, we will look at posts and such, and have discussions in the mod forum and work it out....

i am not entirely sure when the site was started, but it was many years ago, i believe over 10, as i know people who were original mods on the site back then..i myself have only been here 3 years or so though..anyway, ron owned this one, as well as others, then sold it to sundance, who are now the owners, administration, and the only ones with any authroity really....

I don't know much of the history of this site. But if you go to archive.org and key in Cannabis.com on their way back machine, the first listing is for Jan 16, 1998.

It has changed quite a lot from them/

Archive.org is a cool site and a reminder that what you put on the Internet, stays on the Internet.

So have things gone a bit downhill seeing as lots of the original members have left?

It was made early 2004.

I believe it was actually 1997 big boy.

Yeah Ron Bennet made the site back in 1997 and used the advertising revenues to build the site into what it is today....er...what it was right before he sold it for like a million dollars.

Ronny was a cool guy, I haven't gotten to know this Sundance. fellow yet so I won't comment on him/her.

I personally like the forum when there wasn't a 'no-flaming' rule and a strict adherence to the 'weed' only policy.

We could cuss and fight and only the strongest forum warrior would survive, kinda like the pre-modern era of mankind. But now the forum has entered the 21st century with all its stupid rules and guidelines where we have to be nice to everyone or risk exclusion altogether.

I could publish a book on the history of this site lol.

There were some legendary users, they were awesome.

Some that I remember are: Ghostoker420, ReSiNaTe, Ammie, Torog (now psycho4bud i think) and some others but its been too long and memory is not the strong suit of the stoner.

:wtf: Things have not gone down hill its just that some people don't deal with change very well.

I have been with this site for about 5 years and I have been a MOD here for 3 years. This site is about 10 years old now and it is the biggest cannabis site world-wide, and it continues to grow.

Just wondering...which moderators do you like the most? Who are the "good" cops?

so how do the other mods become mods

How do employes become bosses?

Seniority, work ethic, leadership skills, being responsible.

This isn't really a subject that should be discussed.
Certainly some members will have opinions based on their interactions with members of the moderation staff, but these are simply personal opinions.
We should just appreciate their efforts to make this a good, positive place to be and leave it at that.

with a slightly more authoritarian stance and and an eye on the real world, we enter a new age. aw, maybe i'm just gettin' paranoid in my old age. maybe i am imprinting my own problems with authority on what has been for the last year one of the most enjoyable communities i have ever been a part of. maybe i'm right and the marketplace has devoured another slice of the dream. tell me it ain't so. tell me that all is right with the world and appearances are once again deceiving me.

i don't suppose it really matters in the long run. none of us really exist except as random images drifting across the screen and soon enough even that will be gone.

cannabis.com has always been here for me, since i started smoking pot atleast. I heard it was way better way back when. But things can't always stay great. Site most likely would have been shut down by now.

Ghostoker420 is still around I think, and Torog and P4B are not the same people.

"The revolution will not be televised."

the revolution will begin at 7:45 pm pdt and will continue until such time as all participants have attained a nearly comatose state. it will be held in the spacious ballroom which is the area between my seven remaining active brain cells and all are welcome to attend. the proceedings will begin with a short speech by the honorable dr. timothy leary which will be followed by an indefinite period of revelry, debauchery, group sex and the occasional random act of kindness. should anyone survive the revolution, door prizes will be awarded as soon as the winners can be revived. if any prizewinners should later succumb to their injuries, all prizes will be forwarded to their next of kin.
