Both shows are amazing, but South Parks definitely my favorite.
Family Guy is awesome with how it's so damn random,
but if I had to pick it would be south park.

South Park always has a moral at the end, usually criticizing just about... everything.
Most the episodes have to do with current events e.g gay marriage, abortion...
anything controversial that people love hearing about.

Mormonism, Scientology, priests touching little boys, Tom Cruise, stem cell research, etc.

Family guy shows that too, just not to the way South Park does it IMO.

I do like South Park. Especially early episodes, much like the Simpsons.

However, more recently, they've been focusing much more on pop culture- that is, current events, marketing, current people, and after a while, it gets annoying. Kind of like they don't have much fresh material, so they extend on what's going on currently.

Family Guy has been known to "steal" things from other episodes of other stuff, but aside from that? It's funny in its OWN way.

I like both for their own reasons but the writers of South Park are definately much more talented than the writers of Family Guy. South Park jokes are funny on MANY different levels sometimes, and it takes a keen sense to pick up when that's going on. For those people that have unidimensional humour and just want to be fed anything, they usually like Family Guy more

To say Family Guy is for a more "mature" audience makes you stupid. It's really that simple. Family Guy gets it's laughs by being random and purposely retarded. Even a dead cat gets that. With South Park, you're getting more truth and science than FOX News and CNN combined. South Park takes what's fucked up and stupid in our world and humilates it. SP for sure. Fam guy is just too random for me and most of the random shit just isnt very funny. SP though makes fun of everything that is currently goin on and they do it in very clever ways. and just look at the number of characters in SP. there are so many and they all have somethin about them thats hilarious. and what character on fam guy can even come close to comparing to cartman? or randy? or any other character.
