smell while dryng?

Hey all...well i harvested my plant and i hung it up to dry and stuff..its completely dry and im getting ready to put them in jars to cure but right now it smells like hay....what is up with that?

ummm i dunno... im new at the whole harvesting thing, but i do know that my dry weed didn't smell like hay-it smelled like dank WEED lol.

i don't know if this could cause the smell, but is there a chance you might have bud mold or something? i don't wanna scare you, im just wagering a guess.

na i checked for that it looks like normal dank...just smels like hay lol

I watched a video on how to make a good grow room and how to actually grow/dry...and it said something about the clorophyl gets removed during the drying process or something?

lolz, its all the plant matter dryed up, not the buds. after u seperate it all u will see where the hay smell is comming from, i throw all the plant matter into a rubbermaid and it reeks like hay. the buds should smell sweet and goodness.

When I first harvest they smell like buds, then as they dry they take on sort of a fresh-mown smell. After curing them in jars where i take the tops off every day blah blah the lovely normal scent of bud returns to them.

ok yea cuz i got the beds only n their dry but smell like hay but im strating to cure tommorow

Could be the strain... Ive found that White Rhino smells like a mixture between cat piss and wet straw.

these are northern lights so i figured they should smell nice but iunno

Is it properly dried? Ive found that damp weed can smell a bit hayish.

yea its dried to the point where i can snap the buds in half....tried it already lol

I've just started some white rhino off, aint that something to look forward to lolol

oftentime outdoor weed is tasting like hay..

i have HOG to drying right now, and smells it like bananas :)

Fresh picked, weed smells nice. Like it should. As it dries is smells like you describe, like hay. When it's in the curing phase in jars it starts to regain it's nice aroma a little. To me, it seems like the smell is "locked" inside the bud and smells best when you crumble it up to pack a bowl or roll a joint.

Ya, I just harvested my first plant, and it too has that wet vegitative smell. I have trimmed the bud of all leafs and it's in cure stage now but howlong does it take to get it's smell back. I have a some buds that went straight to the pipe without curring and there is some smell when I crush it into the bowl. another thing to note was that it had very little smell while growing, even up to the end. It was Hashberry....
has anyone else grown this strand and is it normaly a low odor plant?

Well given a choice i'd sure rather have one that smells like bananas during drying than cat piss and wet straw. :jointsmile:

NL is not a strain known for it's tremendous smell, but don't worry buddy... it will come back during the cure process. I just got done with a 2000 watt Sour Diesel grow, and SD is known for it's smell/taste. Some of mine smelled a tad like hay (shouldn't for long) while other buds reeked of beautiful citrus/gas smell. As long as you didn't dry it too quickly, that will disappear for sure. What did you have your relative humidity at in the room you dried in? Fans blowing direct air on them or no?
