I know its locked, but i'd like to disagree with Bob. Saying this site would shut down in a matter of months is a bit dramatic isn't it?
This board has 55,000 members. Lets be realistic and say they aren't all active. Nor are they all going to be sending pm's ALL at once, like you've stated.
For comparisons sake, forum.grasscity.com has 49,000 members. Operating for YEARS using pm's.
ICmag, 20,000 members, operating for years, pm's enabled.
Yahooka, 15,000 members, operating for years, pm's enabled.
Dare i go on? Even a board with 3,000 members (1,000 that are active) i'm thinking PG, hg420, and others... pm's enabled.
I dont know what kind of server hosting is provided for cann.com but maybe you should think about opening subscriptions back up and upgrading?

ah, i missed the, 6,000 current active members, 1100 most online on the front page.
Thats right on par with all the forums i've listed above. In fact Yahooka has less members, and an almost equal # of posts and threads. 84,000 and 1.2 Mllion respectively.
Another board, that i know the admin of, and who pays for the hosting out of pocket. 420 Magazine, Threads: 40,960, Posts: 457,330, Members: 32,716.
Again, pm's enabled.
Again, proof that boards operating with pm's work out just fine.

i could be wrong, but i think a big reason why they arent allowed is cuz then there would be all kinds of PM's askin to buy weed from growers and shit like that... im gonna take somethin that i read from xcrispi, if you cant say it on the boards, then you probly shouldnt be sayin it.. or somethin like that..

Any grower in his right mind wouldn't offer bud for sale online to a stranger.
PM's are useful for people who want to continue a discussion with someone and not have a lot of BS replies. Or asking for a more detailed information, lots of reasons.
Ultimately i know this wont go anywhere as its a "preventative" measure, but i'd like to point out that a pm system works fine elsewhere.
Also, as to owners being held responsible for whats on their forums, Then you should probably delete every gallery and grow log. Because last time i checked, growing pot was illegal in most states.

Right, but what was posted is the legality of it. Admins are responsible for content.
theres TONS of illegal content on here. All it takes is someone to push the issue w/ the hosting provider to issue a Cease&Desist letter.

This is a dead issue that you know the answer to... PM's will promote Hookups and that is not what this site wants... The ground rules where laid out a while ago and are pretty well known by now... everyone has the freedom to contact one another just not through this system...
