Yea i hear u thats a possibility but even if the max size was say 50kb if allot of people had them in large threads it would slow it down still

maybe, i dont really know i used to run a site and its strange but small things slow shit down, if 20 people are viewing one thread then it would slow it down, plus ive seen the feature on other sites and it caused problems there (not just bandwidth)

admins, please allow images in our sigs, but not too big if you want restrictions maybe like 400x400 pixels.. thats not too bad

strange that i used to go to a site with a hell of a lot more members than this place, all of whom used image/banner sigs, alot of which would actually be animated... much like one of my own

add to this that this site was also connected to a game server, allowing members to browse who was playing at that time.... i say its strange cuz that site was actually alot faster than this site, with or without the likes of firefox.

i don't know much about sites and bandwidth, but surely a site like this could afford a better bandwidth.

and you can put restrictions on the sizes and content of banner sigs.


if this were to go to a vote then i would vote yes to banner sigs, but then again.... does my opinion really count? ;)

I've been to sites that allow that, and they seem a lot slower.

I would like an increase in avatar size however. :D

im sure people with even dial up can download 4 -5 images the size of the cannabis logo in about 5-10 seconds while the text is already there

and not everyone is gonna have a sig i bet

i only use marihemp as an example cuz it's sort of a rival site, alot of people have left here and went there, some (like me) like to go back and forth, i usually just switch between the chat at marihemp, and the boards here, as alot of friends from the chatroom here go there instead. Some even sit in both chats at once lol, too much windows and text for my liking tho, one chat at a time :D

Fat chance mate, if only it was that easy to settle something like this. I really do think having sig's would be a positive thing though. Also possibly bumping up the post count would be a good idea. Maybe 100 or 200 posts instead, that would save bandwidth too. You often see people get 50 - 100 posts and then leave and never return, obviously with picture sig's enabled it's just using up bandwidth and time.

as far as i know (and i've been a member of a lot of sites with banner sigs) you can only turn off your own sig, not anyone elses.

In your UserCP, Edit options, Thread display options, you can choose to show avatars, signatures and images.
If you uncheck those, you won't see avatars, signatures or inline images. ;)

Adding sigs would make it even worse.

I really enjoy some good lookin sigs, but how many people would actually have decent sigs? Most would be crap and that isn't worth it to me when I'm trying to load a thread to look at some beautiful mary.

I've possbily experienced lag on this site once or twice, but as far as I can remember I haven't at all. I dont think sig's would cause as many problems as most of you seem to think they will.

who says most would be crap, i have made many many sigs for other people, some have given me a particular theme to run with, and some just let you do what you want, i've made more sigs for other people than i have for myself, and i'm sure i wouldn't be the only person on here to do this kind of thing who would be more than happy to make something for others... basically all the forums i've been to that use banner sigs there are usually a small number of artists that make the majority of the sigs, to us it's a hobby, and we don't accept crap :p if its crap then it aint finished.

if cannabis.com did start doing this, i would probably just make sigs for people without them even asking lol (i do that when i'm bored).

the only thing i think that would work to allow banner sigs, would be to make people sign up if they even wanted to access the forums, that way it would get rid of all the guests, people would have to sign up just to look here you know, like i notice if i'm not logged in, then i can't view the feedback board, make the rest of the forums like that and your slow server problems would be solved... i think

Lurkers are important to a commercial site... even if they don't sign up it is still traffic so segregating them is just not going to happen IMO...

I am of the short and sweet sect,,,I don't want to wade in a place that the primary purpose is duscusion... I can see it in a graphics or art forum,,,just not a discussion forum... I was into computer tech forums once and I could see sigs as they showed off there Computer rigs,,,it was almost like part of the discussion and when trying to solve someones prob it was good to have their setup in their sig to go by...

I haven't got a server busy in a while but I noticed throttling bandwidth to accommodate the times that are busy so I expect more load would cause probs... there are all kinds of sites and all kinds of situations,,, if this site was more lucrative I would imagine it would accommodate the peoples choice more but,,,I think it will have to grow into more bandwidth for graphics rather than risk meltdown and rush into it... My 2
