View Full Version : Lighter Recommendations?

As most of you may know by now, I'm new here and new to the world of marijuana. :)
I'm looking into getting a new lighter. Currently I have your basic Bic lighter.... but honestly, I'm sort of strange about liking to look "good" while doing anything (I'm so girly, I'm sorry.... :p ) so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations?
I'm looking into getting a small torch lighter.... quick ignition and such.... Anyone have any thoughts to share?
Thank you. :)

Actually, many of us cannabis users prefer Bic lighters... many colors, everyone's got a color they like best.
Zippos and small torch-type lighters are cool, but are normally only good for lighting joints anyways.
If you're worried about looking good, I think a Bic is perfectly fine, just don't go buying those cheap Chinese plastic lighters that break too easily.

I prefer a green bic lighter. Whatever works for you. If you prefer a torch, I must advise the "tap" method. The torch is extremely hot, and if one were to hold it on the weed for too long it "torches" the weed haha. I have found that if you simply "tap the bowl" on the green spots once or twice while pulling on the piece the whole bowl will cherry up.
peace~
i had the oppurtunity to use a torch the last 3 days til i already finished the butane.
i clear bongs in 1 ripper so this liter was pritty much perfect, cuz if u hold it a little while away, it cherries perfect, and taste better as no flame touaches the weed.

I had to buy one last year in new mexico.

as bad as it sounds, i ALWAYS buy the pinks. I keep them at my house and they seem to LAST longer, they seem to not disappear nearly as fast as say, a green one.
Sometimes before friends leave, i gotta pull "Lighter Checks" to see who pocketed my lighter this time.

Bics don't blow up in your hand when U tap the ash out of cashed bowls. For this reason alone, Bics are best.

I use a small pencil blowtorch from BernzOmatic and just take off the pointy end so it is just a flame.

Nothing is wrong with clippers, they serve loads of people well, as do bics. As long as the lighter produces fire without burning my thumb it's cool.
If you're so into accessorizing (sp..) then don't focus too much on a lighter, think bigger, think of a beautiful glass piece.

I haven't been that lucky with torch lighters. I've gone through 3 in a matter of a month or two.
I use zippos when I go in public, unless it's empty and I don't feel like filling it up.
Since I smoke at home it doesn't really matter to me, I have a lot of cheap lighters that work just fine, I just adjust the flame so it comes out a lot bigger and makes lighting easier.
Torch lighters worked well for bong and pipes for me, but I can't find a torch lighter that will last.

Id say just stick with the bic. Its always served me well. Torch lighters are only good if your smokin out of a hookah. But if your lookin for a cool lookin lighter thain get one of the bics with the flick your bic design on it. They have tye dye and alot of other designs.
Here i just found this page.

I used to use Bic's but I use the lighters with the adjustable flame now because if I'm smokin a big blunt or w/e it's easier to light it with a big flame and if I'm smokin a bowl I can adjust it bigger if I feel like killin the bowl quicker lol. But make sure the metal part you flick looks like this (http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/231/untitled1fw4.jpg) and not this (http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/7625/untitled2cn3.jpg) because I swear those are so hard to flick for some reason. It almost doesn't even work, just hurts my thumb lol.

Btw I have a question..how exactly does the child guard for the BIC work? I mean I haven't used one BIC without a child guard and I still can flick 'em once and I have a flame. So what is that thing really preventing? I mean if a kid knows how to flick a lighter they probably could do it too.

So point of this all is either get one without a child protector or get one with a wheel that has traction for your thumb? Orangeman, that picture was very helpfull.
So why doesn't anyone here ever just shell out $25 and get a good lighter and some butane? I rarely lose lighters and they just run out of gas. Thats why I like my blow torch because its refulable and I can fit it in my pocket.

Thanks, and actually I do have a butane lighter but that clicking noise is too loud and annoying. I rather just flick my lighter quietly. Plus I like flicking it better lol. Also I just don't have the time to keep spending money on refilling it and replacing it if it breaks. I had a few butane lighters that broke..

Damn I cant stand that thing. Its so cold here, so when your outside your hands are freezing, and that thing hurts like hell when you gotta flick you lighter 60 times cause of the wind.
and Bics are awesome, although when I went to the states Ive seen those flick you bic designs, Ive never seen em here, only plain ones and not that much colors...I buy black, white (my favourite cause you can see the fluid left) or red usually.

If you like looking good, and like giving the impression that you are sophisticated beyond your years, and got a little cash to spend on something that will last forever... Get a Colibri! I have one I carry when I'm in a suit... here's a nice womens lighter with pink and clear austrian crystals. I've heard so many different thoughts on the various BIC colors I'm actually FREAKING out because I'm such a superstious person! Ahhh!
Does anyone use a cool cover (like a pewter one or something) to go over their BIC? Does this take away any issues with the color? hee hee

uh so im a big lover too. i rip off the child safety deal first thing. and just to agree with a few people, white lighters were always bad luck with the people i used to kick it with. i actually like lighter colors, seems like red and black and so popular and i always loose them to people. by the way something else to maybe check out is
1.phedor (http://www.wickedroots.com/Vaporizers/Herbal-Vaporizer.html). i really want to pick one of these eventually. seems like you wouldnt taste any fuel.
2.lighter covers. like cannabuds, (http://www.everyonedoesit.co.uk/online_headshop/productCategory.cfm?sC=Cannabuds_Lighter_Holders&iProductCategoryID=543&iLastCatID=494)or heres clipper holders. i dont know, thats just my 2 cents. oh yeah and dont support cheap lighters! buy a bic or matches, dont use a zippo or torch. if you can smoke outside and have nothing use a magnifieing glass!

Bic actually makes a metal cover for their lighters. It's their "M series" for the full size ones, and I don't remember what its called for their mini lighters, But it's just a plain flip-top metal case. They sell them at bigger drug stores (saw them at walgreens the other day...) They're like $5-7 and they come with one lighter.
Glad you liked the colibri link... I've had two of them, and they last forever, as long as you use colibri butane, and don't beat the crap out of them. My first one was a "torch" lighter that had a ceramic element... One too many times dropping it on the pavement, and I cracked the element. Colibri would have fixed it for $15, but the case was so beat-up, I just bought a new one.

I had a shitty BIC lighter the other week. I couldn't figure out why I didn't like it. It was red, which I usually like. I flipped it over and WaaLaa!! "Made in France" I was like what the fuck? Searched through my drawers and all the others were made in the USA.

Colibri if you're looking for a fancy one. I have one of their torch lighters and its great, but you have to be careful not to destory whatever's in your bowl, cuz they burn super hot. I usually burn the first bowl or two with a Bic, but once I'm high I have a hard time flicking it, so I switch over to the push button torch style one. :D

I love the look and ease of the torch lighters, but since I'm such a rookie, I can see myself buring the hell out of the herb and ending up with charcoal! :p Looks like I need to get the hang of it with the BIC.... the perhaps spice it up with a fancy torch (if I ever get out of "rookie" status!)
Where do you buy BIC lighters, anyway? Honestly... I have no idea? Grocery store? Gas station? (okay... I'm actually embarrased that I just asked that..but what the hell....)

gas stations sell all kinds, go buy a handful. And torch lighters work, they're just a tad tricky. What you want to do is just angle the flame horizontally like, an inch or so above the bowl (much farther than you would a bic) and pull so that it only just curves the tip of the flame, and it will light just like usual. I've only had to use torches a few times, and I definitely prefer a normal flame lighter (like my penguin).

Not a zippo or any petrol lighter, but clippers come apart for rolling roaches round the flint holder and using it to poke your weed further into your cone.
Clippers are cool.

Always go with a bic. They are the best, after safety thing and warning sticker are removed. I've always heard that yellow was the bad luck color, but I never cared for white so I'll be staying clear of that too. And Zippos do not mix with smoking weed, ever. A bic works great for every application.
