Good chill out music. I gotcha covered.
Sasha
Telepopmusik
Mogwai
I'd list more, but I assume if the list is too long then you won't listen to them all. So those are the three best.
Go listen to "Into Everything" and "Just Breathe" by Telepopmusik. Then come back to the forums and try and tell me that those two songs aren't the best chill out songs ever created.

Ofcourse you have the basics like Pink Floyd and such which are always great but I have found that these 10 albums always provide a great trip.
1. Janes Addiction- Kettle Whistle
2. Flaming Lips - Transmissions from Sattelite Heart
3. Sublime - Robbin The Hood (really anything Sublime but this is my fav.)
4. Bob Marley - Kaya (or atleast a greatest hits)
5. John Frusciante - Curtains (or Niandra Leds & Usually Just a T-Shirt if you wanna get wierd)
6. Porno for Pyros - Good God's Urge
7. My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
8. Primus - Pork Soda
9. The Pixies - Come On Pilgrim (or Surfer Rosa)
10. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream (Also some b-sides "The Boy", "Said Sadly", "Blue", and "Cherry")
Pandora Internet Radio - Find New Music, Listen to Free Web Radio (http://www.pandora.com)

I don't want to over recomend songs because then you probably won't try them out. so i'll just recomend Strangefolk. Try "Valhalla" and also try "Whatever" and if you like either of those i give you a bunch of other recomendations.

Brian Eno (founding father of ambient music)
Deadbeat (electronic dub)
Amon Tobin (cinematic bigbeat/trip hop)
Red Snapper (processed acoustic breaks/trip hop)
Cinematic Orchestra (just download this man, you'll love it)
Bonobo (semi-acoustic, sample based triphop)
Boards of Canada (downtempo IDM)
Boombip (versatile electronic/breaks/folk/etc)
Portishead (founders of trip hop/bristol sound)
DJ Krush (Japanese instrumental hiphop, very cool and meditative)

pretty descent list. i give big ups to any Loveless fans. one of, if not the single greatest album ever made. Too bad so many people just dismiss that shit because of the name. MBV Takes psychedelic rock to new heights.
as per the flaming lips you should download "In A Priest Driven Ambulance", their best album imo
dont download curtians if you were thinkin about it, go with Niandra LaDes

Yeah my personal JF fav is Niandra LaDes. But I find its a little wierd for some people to just jump right into.
Oh also another to add to the list is John Mayall real good 70s blues/jazz/rock. Really interesting stuff I personally took a journey to a live album of his last night. Good times, Good times.
