if temp. is not a prob. use a small heater,or pehaps just better ventilation....or maybe even buy a 400 dollar 1000w light instead of the 200 dollar humidifier???

is 45 an ideal humidity?

45 is in the 'good' range.
if there is a window in your room, run a small a/c unit... it will strip excess heat AND moisture right out of the air.
That's how I used to do it anyway; I managed to keep my %RH in the 30s even in our nasty muggy New England July

a dehumidifier is probably the best idea tho, If you have 70% humidity that is. Becuase well its better all around not just for the plants to lower the humidity in your house or where ever you are. Its a good investment and almost every basement should have one, keeps moisture and mold off the walls. Im lucky i had one already, if not my room in my basement where i pretty much live, would become very mildew like and smell just odd.
