First Time Grower!

Hi Everybody!

I am a regular forum user and this is my first post on this site and might I saw what a quality site it is!

Anyways if there was a picture in the dictionary for a noob weed grower it would be of me.

I have smoked hash for years cuz its all we can in Ireland and its absolute rubbish and the weed is crappy too! (also double the price) so I want to learn how to grow.

I have read through some threads on the site and it all seems very complicated but I love a challenge.

What is the easiest way of starting off to grow? I just wanna try and get some easy plants out of the way first and then try bigger and better things.

Should I grow inside or outside? What is the minimum temperature the plants can be exposed to? Is there much upkeep for plants outside if i was growing guerilla style?(at the moment daily average is about 10 degrees and little sunlight.

As I say im not trying to grow a field or something thats gonna win the Cannabis Cup just something small and easy to start off.

Any advice would be great or even a link to somewhere with info.

From what I can tell you should probably grow inside. First you need a set up lights,ventilations, etc... You need to choose what strain you want to grow and get seeds too. You probably won't do so well for your first grow since most people don't. This may sound like a stupid question but how many seeds should you plant to start if you are doing it in a closet? Its about 2foot x 2foot and 6 feet high.

Are there easier strains to grow than others if so what would be a good one to start on and approx how many seeds should I get?

Finally can anybody recommend a fertiliser?

I'd try to germ 3 seeds or so and atleast 2 will hopefully germ. Also you will have to hope they don't turn out male. I'd check out Marijuana Seeds (cannabis, pot) shipped worldwide (http://www.hempdepot.com) for seeds. If you are looking for low odor I would try one of the Cinderella 99 crosses. Just get a pack of 10 seeds. And for fertalizer idk... haha, I would have to read up a little more.

Now that I think about it i'd probably germ a few more, it depends how many plants you want though.

Well I will need to keep it permanently in my closet which is 2' x 2' and 6' high so im not sure how many i should fit in? How long does it take see what sex they are and should you just throw away the male plants? Is it easy to tell the difference?

Well you could probably fit 2 maybe 3, but i'm not sure as I don't know that much about indoor growing. When the plant gets old enough it'll start to show its pistils if its a female or little balls which means it is a male. And yeah just throw away the males unless you plan on creating your own strain or something. It's pretty easy to tell the difference BTW.

After germination can you put the seeds straight into a 3 gallon tub of soil or should you start in a small tub does it make a difference?

And im assuming nutes are nutrients?? Can anybody recommend a particular type of nutes and how ofter should you give them to the plant?

Would Nortern lights be a good seed to start on?

And finally should I just buy female seeds is that recommended because I dont think i could handle growing a plant and finding out its male that would drive me insane!lol

yeah just put them in a 3 gallon, it doesn't matter. Yes nutes=nutrients, get something for tomatoes, ask around at a homedepot, or if you have a hydrostore go there. I wouldn't start with northern lights, if you want something really easy try something autoflowering. But just get seeds of a strain you will like. You should probably just by normal, or try bagseed for first grow, unless you have the money to spend.

Cool! so maybe a lowryder then? I have read up about them they seem fairly easy to manage and they can be harvested within 8 weeks I think. I wonder what the average yield is?

you only want 1 seed per pot. anything more your roots will get mixed up and if 1 is a male and you pull it the roots will rot and kill the other.

I went for my first equipment hunt today and have located most of what I need but I have a few questions..

I found the phillips CFL bulbs 3 x 40w and 3 x 25w but in the shop they had cfl bulbs which were 75w for the same price and they had a much higher lumen count 1000+ per bulb..I know i dont know a lot about growing yet but im assuming the more lumens the better so would 4 of these be as good or better than 3 x 40w + 3 x 25w? (all the bulbs are softone couldnt find other ones is that important?)

Instead of wiring the lights together because I dont know how and not willing to risk dodgy wiring in my apartment im just going to buy four small desk lamps which should do the same job shouldn't they? they only cost about â?¬5 each.

I found a sterilied garden soil that should be ok shouldnt it or should I be getting compost?

The one thing I couldnt find in all the places I went was the nutes 15-30-15?

They all had miracle grow all purpose plant food and stuff like that but nothing had 15-30-15 on it. They also had some kind of tomato food liquid but I didnt know which one would work?

Im almost definitly going to go for some lowryder seeds as they are auto flower and will probably be good for my first grow.

Finally because it is in my closet there is no direct source of fresh air..only when I open my window and the closet door in my room the closet is large enough so if I add a small fan it should help with the circulation but I don't know if this is enough? and is c02 an issue for a small grow such as my own?

you really need for veg growth 6500k or daylight bulbs try going to a megga mart in the usa it would be like walmart don't know the type of store in ireland would be

no garden soil is not good for indoor grow you need to buy potting mix or potting soil. and you need to buy pearlite and mix 40% perlite to 60% potting soil.

if you don't want to go online go get shultz cactas ferts follow the directions for suculants life cycle it will just be faster then it says. DO NOT USE MIRICLE GROW

ya you should be ok with the air flow with a small fan. and as far as co2 do not worry about it you first grow you are learning. If you feel you need it then look into it but remember this is your learning grow.

Thanks a million Spankey great reply! No Irish equivalent of Walmart unfortunatly so sorting out the lighting is going to be a problem!

Another noob question: what does 6500k mean/stand for?

Do you just mix up the pearlite with the potting soil or is it layered? Is pearlite easy to pick up in a garden store?

Whats the best way to germinate just dampen a piece of toilet paper and leave the seed in it under a light?

And then after germination how deep should the seed be planted?
