Hey guys, in about 3 months the girlfriend and I are moving away from roommates, and getting our own townhouse! That means we finally have room to get a small grow started. I have been planning this day in my head for a couple years now. I have be researching heavily for about 2 months, but decided to ask the experts. I have until june 1st to get all my supplies together.

I need you guys to help plan my grow. Keep in mind this is my first grow, so I am not looking for anything overly-complicated. I have a closet space thats about 3'x5'x10' tall, and a budget of about $500 for everything. I plan to keep it small to start with only 2-4 plants. What type of lighting would you use? I am leaning toward fluorescent right now for obvious reasons. What about for the seedlings? Should I just buy feminized seeds from a seedbank online? What other misc. hardware do I need? Do I need to worry about smell for a couple plants? If so, how should I rig up my exhaust system?

Is there anything im missing? Thanks in advance..

No, like I said, I have done alot of research over the past few months. Maybe you guys have misunderstood my post. I dont want to know what the best, or most popular method is, I want to know what YOU would do with my options and budget.

Build an aeroponic system out of a tote and use net pots either 2 or 4. And I would go feminized thats what I did on my first grow and i still buy fem occasinally, it will give you confidence and this way you wont have to kill half which would suck because you would only be left with half of the desired number of plants. Use cfls for your veg but def Buy a 400w hps. for bloom you should be able to do this with your budget. Also buy a strain that is mostly indica. Here is a link to a good and reasonbly priced hydro store.

High Tech Garden Supply (http://www.htgsupply.com/products.asp)

They have awesome customer service. and quality products.

As for the aero system I have never used one but want to and it would work well with your aloted space IMO.

emo. if your looking for a pretty easy set up i would stick with soil for the first grow. although hydro and aeroponic are great, they can be a lot of work and matinace for a beginner, which can be discouraging when something goes wrong. female seeds would be a good purchase. and like socialstpete said i would veg with cfls and get a 400 hps for flowering

Hey i would build a aero systems, get some pvc piping a pump a rubbermaid and micro sprayers thats like 50 bucks and some netpots and hydroton. Just attached the sprayers to the pvc and the pvc attaches to the pump, fits in rubbermain, u got a sweet ass system for like 50 buks, then get a 400 watt or 600watt hps light $150? and a vortex fan with carbon scrubber, $250 about, thats a entire setup, just like mine.

nutes will be like another $80 with ph adjusters and nutrients a ph test kit u could get a ppm meter, depends on your level of grow 2 or 4 plants u can watch for nute burn a ppm meter may not be necessary always nice to have though.

Totally agree. When i read posts like this I never think of soil because I grow Hydro, def a pain in the ass sometimes.

i would probably kill a soil grown plant, i dunno hydro is my thing, had good results from the start, if you are informed on hydro it is just as easy as soil, its just not a natural way of growin, think outside of the box!

I think most of your $500 should go to the lighting and hardware (reflectivity, light-tight security). Pro lighting will last a long time with little expense. you'll perpetually spend money on commercial nutes. I've always felt the lights are your most important variable and investment. Fluoro lights are higher maintenence. I grow famously under a 250w hps alone. My grow box is real small, so if your thinking of a whole closet at least 400w hps, but the more lumens the better. It translates into bigger, denser buds. . The second consideration is the soil and nutes.
