this may get a little rant-y, but today i had something bad happen at work...

i was working in the photo dept. and everything was shut down for the night, except for the inkjet refilling machine. (nightly maintanence) i already had 2 inkjets that i had to refill before i could go about my nightly cleaning and straightening of the store, which we have to do before we go home. normally i break down the machines at 8:30, so i can bring em back up before i leave at 11:30-midnight...well tonight i was still over there at 10:20pm ish because i kept getting customers, and also one of our other registers was down so i was helping cashier from photo.

anyways, i digress...its about 10:20pm, and i'm doing the two refills, they can only be done one at a time. process is simple: soak in solution for 30 minutes, put in machine, follow instructions. blah blah blah.

this chick walks up, saying she has 2 cartridges she needs refilled. i'm all like ok, well lemme check and make sure we refill those, i check, tell her yeah...then i tell her that it wont be able to be started till the overnight manager gets there at 11pm, because the guy doing front register overnight doesn't know photo (he's just filling in till we hire someone)...its at this point she flips out on me and says that she JUST called up here and asked if they can be done overnight, and was told yes. and that she needed them tonight for w/e blah blah blah.

she then tells me she works for the same company (but at a diff. store) and that she works that dept. and everything, and that she understands i have other tasks i gadda do, but that she needs them tonight. this whole time i'm being pretty understanding, giving her options on how we can do it. i even told her i'mma ask my mgr if i should stay there and do them, and have someone else do my nightly work, or leave it for the overnight manager.

she got upset with me when i told her, "ma'am, even if i started them right now they wouldn't be finished before 11pm" (keep in mind this is all at like 10:30 or so at night...)

then she starts getting an attitude with me, and says she works for the same place i do (diff. store) and that she works my dept. and she knows how to do the inkjet refills, and that it does not take them 30 minutes to soak in the solution....

finally she just leaves and says she'll call in a bit to see if they're done. i'm like fine, no biggie. i go tell the manager on duty whats going on (and i'm visibly upset)

a few minutes later (AND THIS CHICK HAS ALREADY LEFT THE FRICKIN STORE) i'm talking to the guy at the front register, he was just walking away from where i was standing, i was telling him whats goin on w/the chick and all...and i said "i'm half tempted to fail them"

them meaning the cartridges...which would mean they didnt pass the tests...

apparently its right at this precise moment the chick walks back in the store or something....i see her storming towards me from the front door goin "give em back!" i was like "ma'am i'm starting them right now" "she's like no...what?! so you can fail them on purpose?!!"

and she takes them and leaves....

(what she doesn't realize is that when we "fail" them, they're fully filled, just means it failed print test...and we cancel the ticket and give them their cartridge back, free of charge...so even if i HAD failed it, the damned thing would've been back in her possession filled and working)

also...not to be conceited, but i'm one of the better employees, i take everyones bullshit and just deal with it...i do other peoples work...i'm always early...all that good junk....no matter how frustrated i'd get at any moron i deal with, i'd never purposely fuck up doing my work...i have a better work ethic than that...

so i'm hoping the wont fire me. i talked to the overnight manager and she says that the most they could do is write me up for it if she calls in and complains....and my co-workers tonight have said they'll back me up....

i'm scared tho...and i was crying while cleaning my aisles up tonight...my co-workers were trying to cheer me up and i was like having a frickin episode lol...

but yeah...i'm paranoid...because i can't lose this job! i know it was wrong of me to mumble that...but i didnt think she could hear, hell she wasn't in the store when i had first started saying anything...she just came right back in just then....she's like frickin Radar O'Reiley from M*A*S*H

i have a family to support...how will i feed us if i lose this job? how will i pay the light bill? this is the best paying job i've ever had, and we're still barely scraping by half the time....

thoughts, anyone?

if the company has half a brain they won't fire you. Surprisingly big department stores like a solid staff, I work at a warehouse store and they help me out all the time and are very understanding, but I as you am also normally a good employee.

Tell them the truth and hope that you have enough trust that they will let it slide, don't try to hide from it or make it seem like its not your fault.

My god calm down hun! You didnt do anything wrong. You even said yourself that this women was out of hand and that even if she does call that your co-workers will back you up. Just relax for a bit. It seems to me like this woman is a bit nuts. Again though i doubt you will lose your job, you said that the worst that will happen is that you will get wroten up, not fired.

yeah...one of my co-workers was tellin me to lie about it...i'd rather be up-front about it and take any write up or w/e they deal out to me...i admit i was in the wrong in what i said...even though i did it when she "wasn't there"....maybe the good work i do, and me being early all the time, being helpful all the time (even showing customers where stuff is when i'm on my break or not even working at the time) and the fact that this is the first time anything of the sort has happened will be in my favor....

*crosses fingers*

to make it worse...today my lil boy (he's 2) cut the HELL outta his thumb on a piece of broken glass that had fallen under a dresser.

today's sucked balls...enormous, enormous balls :(

awwwwww i hope your sons okay. And I would just tell the truth. i think you'll look shady if you don't. Besides you said it yourself that you are one of their better employees, I dont think that they would want to lose you over something so damn stupid.

i try not to worry bout shit like this...i mean...you just gadda take what happens in life...deal with it, and move on....

i know its crazy to kill myself worrying, but when you've always been the sole provider for your family...you worry...i always feel like a failure no matter what...

i was on medication...but haven't been able to get back to the doctor for more...i was having pretty regular moods while on my meds...now its like i'm all over the place...i'm pretty positive i am bipolar...
blegh...

i'm glad for all of y'alls kind words...its good to know even if here where i live, i dont really have any friends...i can come on here and have some of the bestest people around as my friends...who'll lift me up when i'm down...

y'all people rock...

i guess it helps to hear logical, rational reasoning from other people...kinda reaffirms what you already know but are too scared to acknowledge...

I am sure you are fine. Tell the story, just as you did here and everything will be A-OK. Good employees are hard to come by.

honestly i feel for you sometimes anything you say will never by good enoutgh and they dont even think of the fact that your at a poxy phto shop at 10:30pm at night i mean cmon people why be an asshole to someone working at that time? i go places late at night and thats where I TRY to be the good easy costomer with little efoort cos i know i wouldnt like to be there that late.

sum people r just wankers cos they think they can be, i mean you wouldnt hear them talking to you like that on the street would ya?

why not?

cos theyd get a slap and they know it they just hide behind the fact your the shop worker theyre the customer,

if i was your manager id tell her im gonna deal with you then id give give you an extra ten minute break to calm down abit........and leave it at that

If she worked at the same place she would of been different cause she would be dealing with asses like herself all day...

BabySnookums
02-25-2007, 10:44 AM
then theres the fact that she could've been what they call a "mystery shopper"...someone that comes in and asks questions, posing as a customer, etc etc...to report back to corporate...to make sure we're giving good customer service....

but i doubt that one...

but hey...maybe since she's a fellow walgreens person...they wont take it as a complaint? hopefully LOL

if my leg still didn't hurt from the accident...OoOooo...i woulda took a "smoke break" when she left the store...

(when i first went into the office to tell the manager, even she told me i shoulda kicked the bitches ass *that manager kicks ass lol*, and later she said "hey, if she knows how to do it, i should make her clock in and do it her damned self")

Sorry about the bad day, sweetie. I think you're just fine at work, though. Like someone else recommended, just tell the story fully the way you did here for us, and they're going to understand reason. Frankly, I think the likelihood of your even being written up is low. That woman from the other store was an impatient hot-head, and you maintained your cool amazingly well. Sounds like your colleagues and the manager on duty will back you, too, if there's any question at all.

Hope your little boy is feeling better soon from his cut finger. And I hope today and this next week go better for your both!

IF they call you on it you just tell them the truth.....usually stuff like that doesn't get back to you because whoever (whomever?) the idiot customer is they usually calm down after the initial bs and realize they've been a bonehead. NOT that they will admit it to you but most often the idiot (having calmed) is as anxious as you are to drop the whole thing. If not, you tell the boss the story and call your co-workers for back-up. I don't thnk you will hear anything about it though.

PS Also tell your boss that if they get rid of you (and they won't so don't worry) you're going to send that particular woman in to replace you since she is obviously such a terrific example of excellent customer service. ;)

I ask Why Did she want your store to do them?

was she lazy.....???? was her store broke down? why was she there?

If i was having any Intercompany transactions.....The store manager shoulod call the other store manager....and confirm the situation.

If she called as a customer, and asked to have them filled that is one thing.

If she is from another store.....she is LAST on the customer service list.

I would call her boss and tell Him or her, that i dont appreciate that employee coming to the store, (late and with a bad attitiude) and harrasing my employees......

If i was your store manager BabyS, I would handle it for you.....LOL

let us know what happens...

so when that girl came from another store.... she should have walked in and talked to your store manager......

Then your store manager walks up to you and says.....

this is So and so from store #11....she needs these filled. you would have understodd what was going on.....

your store manager would have known you were short handed...and told the person to chill..............or to go to another store......

the thing is, she obviously doesn't work doing the same thing... she's tellin my wife it doesn't take 30 minutes to FILL them.. they have to soak in some solution for 30 minutes period... so no matter what it's an automatic 30 mins...

meh, i told her she didn't really have anything to worry about... it's not like she was sitting there cussing out the customer in her face an what not... (that'd be a whole diffrent story)

i also 'know' someone had to of told her that's what she said... even if she was talking in a normal voice, there's no way that woman could have heard it on her own.... it would just be literally impossible....

I'm sure things will turn out okay, you are a model worker everyone knows it. Even if the lady does complain, i'm sure you'll have several people backing you before you even hear about it.
