Set the Truth Free

Glad the title was catchy enough to entrap whoever was currently surfing! Alright; I'm a high school student working on an MIS (Major Independant Study) based on the medicinal values of marijuana. I have a questionnaire for anyone to fill out so that I can get some accurate results on whether marijuana (previously advertised as a rape drug, the cause of gang wars, teen pregnancy, etc) helps people or not; I need a lot of people (so far I have 12) and the results are very promising so far. I'd very much appreciate anyone helping me out and, if you want me to, I can post the results after I've finished compiling everything.
1. Are you male or female?
2. What is your age range (10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, etc)?
3. Have you ever smoked or consumed marijauana directly?
4. Have you ever felt any adverse effects (nausea, dizziness, vomitting, headache, etc?
5. If not, what sort of effects did you encounter? How long did they last?
6. If you have discovered adverse effects (nausea, dizziness, vomitting, headache, etc) after inhaling or consuming marijuana directly, do you think the effects may have been the reult of taking another drug before using marijuana, such as a painkiller, an alcoholic beverage or some other kind of medication?
7. Do you use marijuana for medicinal or recreational purposes?
8. Does your consumption of marijuana interfere with any of your activities (job or school)?
9. If you use marijuana for medicinal purposes, do you suffer from a disease such as AIDS, cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, etc?
10. If you suffer from a disease that isn't one of tha above, which disease is it? How does the inhalation and/or consumption of marijuana help you?
11. Are you able to buy your marijuana from a deisgnated grower, or do you buy your marijuana from an illegal source? Why?
12. Have you ever tried marijuana issued by the government? If not, why? If so, what is your opinion of it- price, quality, accessibility, etc?
13. What is your opinion about the accessibility of marijuana? Do you believe marijuana is a gateway drug? Explain. Do you have any other comments?

1. Male
2. 10-19
3. Yes, many times.
4. I felt naseau the first time i smoked marijuana, but no bad effects after my first time.
5. Nothin but a feel good relaxation, and being able to carryout normal day things with a relaxed feeling.
6. Yes, it's because i had a bit of a headache the first time i smoked.
7. Recreational. i don't sell... and i don't smoke every day. Couple times a week...
8. No. I have B's and A's in school, and i havn't "dropped out of school" or "jumped out of a building " from using marijuana. I can still talk to people, do school work etc. but with a nice relaxed feeling.
9. No diseases
10. i have no diseases, but it does help for reliving stress... or if you have like a backpain, or can't get to sleep.
11. I buy from a "illegal source"... but it's not really illegal in my eyes. It helps my dealer buy necessary things like food and such.
12. No, but i'm going to this week. It's pricing is usually less than normal chronic ( high grade marijuana ) even, and is better from what i hear. To get the marijuana, you usually will have to buy it from a dealer who is diagnosed with a disease, or has a friend who's diagnosed who's give the dealer marijuana.
13. marijuana is barely a gateway drug in my opinion. The first drug people use is mostly marijuana or tobbaco. Tobbbaco doesn't really have a affect ( in my opinion )... so once they try marijuana they get a real high. A small amount of people choose to move onto harder drugs. But in amsterdam, once marijuana was legalized... heroin and cocaine use dropped by a large amount. So, marijuana can take the place of harder drugs without death. Marijuana should be legalized for those 18 or older... And you shouldn't be able to operate machinery while your stoned if it was legalized

5. Euphoria, happy confusion, exciting paranoia, mellowness, and tiredness.
6. I don't mix marijuana with any other drug.
7. Both. I enjoy it, and I use it to treat my ((diagnosed)) severe insomnia.
8. No. I use it at night and on weekends. I work during the day and on weekdays.
9. I suffer from diagnosed Bi-Polar disorder, minor paranoia, and severe insomnia. I've found that marijuana helps all of these.
10. Marijuana allows me to sleep at night, it allows me to mellow out, and helps with creative problem solving which helps keep bad situations at a minimum level of intensity.
11. I purchase marijuana illegally. Medical use has not yet been accepted in my state.
12. No, I have not.
13. Marijuana is gateway drug, just as alcohol and tobacco are. Marijuana is usually the third stepping stone though, after tobacco, then alcohol. Marijuana is easy to obtain in most areas. This is because of the high price as well as demand for it.
I am a pro-legalization activist. However, I don't feel that it will ever be legalized within the states. At most it will be de-criminalized. This is because we do not have the money to reimburse all those who our government has wronged by jailing or fining. Also, it would greatly reduce cotton, pharmaceutical, wood-based paper, and fossil-fuel profits thereby reducing the amount of money our government takes in from these large companies.

That government agencies and private industry target certain socail boards, and pretend to be normal people but are in fact gathering infomation on how the public reacts specifically to certain sitations so as they can better sell us products we dont need.

Not ragging on your study or anything--I'm glad that your taking the time to find out info at a ground level, but what's this study hoping to achieve/answer? Some of us, including myself, have experience dealing with formal scientific research, so we'd definately be interested in helping you along if you'd give us some further details and whatnot..
OH, the C, your paranoid-ness cracks me up lol

Don't be silly. ^.^ What product could this possibly help them sell? And because the information he is gathering is so non-specific there's no possibility of him narcing. Not everyone is out to get the potheads. :)

11."illegal" source, because a recreational pot smoker can't walk down to the shop and ask for a pack of White Widow joints, for example, like tobacco users can...Lets all thank our ultra conservative governments for that...
12.I would have to be a complete retard to trust the Australian government with my 'criminal habit'. No, its not a gateway drug. Each individuals choice is theirs to make.Cannabis doesn't whisper in your ear 'go try coke or heroin'. But I do think anyone who enjoys a drug such as cannabis would probably be open to trying XTC, shrooms or Acid.
Pot is here because it's here. No one can change that, not even the government. And for the government to dictate cannabis' purpose on earth is goin beyond their actual jobs...

12. no, marijuana is 100% illegal in my state (il). no medical cards for us!
13. marijuana is quite accessable, and in any given day i could easily procure some for myself with little hassle. i think cannabis should be as legal as alcohol currently is, in that it shouldn't be sold to minors (as it can hinder the maturing process during puberty... adolescents should not do ANY kind of drugs), shouldn't be used outside in public, etc. if the government took the alcohol laws and applied them to marijuana today, i'm pretty sure we'd have a happier tommorow with very little repercussion (besides the die-hard anti-pot people blowing themselves up and shit)

13. very accesible all over the world the war on drugs is a complete failure. it is not a gateway drug as opposed that the gateway is the person, the drug does not make you try other drugs you have the power over which drugs you take marijuana does not force you to try other drugs. alcohol is just as much as a gateway drug as weed which is to say if you dont think alcohol is a gateway drug then weed isnt a gateway drug.

Its pretty easy to get for me cause i know a few reliable people but it depends on the time of year, eg now i cant score shit if i tried all night cause its near christmas and customs crack down at this time of year.
Im guessin by gateway drug u mean leads to other drugs? if so not directly its completly up to the person taking the drug/s. weed doesnt say hey smoke me and then do sum shrooms n then sum crack and hey while ur at it why not sum scag....
I think weed should be legalised or at least decriminalized cause its completly up to the individual if they wanna smoke in their homes they pay tax n rent n shit so why cant they have the odd smoke if they want...
LEGALIZE FREEDOM!!!!!
lol that took me well longer than i imagined n sum of it probly dont make sense...sorry :D

13. What is your opinion about the accessibility of marijuana? Do you believe marijuana is a gateway drug? Explain. Do you have any other comments? It would be more accessable if it was legal, it all depends on who you know, where you live, etc. It's not a gateway drug, further drug use depends on the person.

1. Female
2. 20-29
3. Yes, smoked and ate marijuana
4. Yes, but note that I did a ridiculous, extraordinary amount of weed, and I was just starting to get into smoking at the time (no tolerance).
5. Nausea, no vomiting. For about 30 minutes (although time perception is altered on weed so it could be for less time) till I passed out.
6. Am allergic to alcohol, and I did drink a few beers that night. I definitely think alcohol intensified my nausea.
7. Recreational, although it's not just all fun and games for me. I like to use it for introspection/deep thought, meditation, calming purposes, etc. So in that light, it could be said that I use MJ for psychological purposes, thus medical purposes.
8. No, I believe weed only intensifies your own emotions/attributes. If you're lazy to begin with, weed will just make you lazier. Since I'm lazy, weed just made it that much easier to be lazy. But in no way was weed the cause of my laziness (which has affected my life).
9. N/A
10. N/A, although I do have asthma, and weed seems to keep my asthma attacks down to a minimum (maybe bc I'm calmer all the time?).
11. I buy from an illegal source bc I have no medical reason to buy it legally.
12. No, but I've always wanted to try it. Why,do you have any?
13. Regarding availability, MJ is in reality pretty hard to find for the average person, at least where I live. Ppl here usually get weed through close friends or family members. It's not like ppl are on every street corner peddling weed (I wish it was like that!). In fact, it took me 2 years of steady searching to finally find a source of weed.
As for MJ being a gateway drug, I don't believe that to be true. If you start out using ANY drug, the average person will become curious and want to try out other drugs. The only reason why weed is singled out as the gateway drug might be bc weed is a little easier to find than other drugs (but as stated earlier, it's still hard to find and getting even harder to find), so it's most likely that your first experience with drugs is with weed. Also bc weed usually generates fun highs and rarely if ever does weed cause a bad trip. Bc of this, ppl usually end up with a good experience with MJ, causing them to imagine that other drugs can give a similar experience. But overall, like many others have said, it mainly just depends on the person.
Here in Hawaii, during the past 20 years or so, the police have been focusing on cracking down on marijuana growers and marijuana in general. I strongly feel that it is because of this MJ is now extremely hard to find in Hawaii. I also strongly feel that this is why Hawaii is now leading the nation as far as ice (crystal meth) use. I strongly feel that if the police and DEA didn't focus all of their attention on eradicating marijuana, then Hawaii wouldn't have such a big crystal meth epidemic.

Yeah it sucks, I started to get into weed after they cracked down on it. So I would mostly get regular stuff from the mainland. Of course, once in a while I'd get lucky and get some really interesting Hawaii based stuff, but it still sucks bc I know I'd get the interesting and really good stuff much more often if they hadn't cracked down on all the Hawaii growers.
I think I checked out the ministry awhile ago. It sounded like a good idea until I heard that the card you get for joining doesn't really help anything, cops will still bust you. If this is the case, then paying so much to join a ministry isn't really worth it imo.

Marijuana was never a gateway drug since well I've done it before mj. I used to think "Oh marijuana isent as good at acid, e, coricdin so why bother?" But I was wrong very worong. *Gushing* ThankyouThankyouThankyou!!!!
I lost my password, found it, then I couldn't remember where I posted ( ), and when I finally found it here, I was so happy to see that so many people have posted!! Thank you!!
Some people required more info on what exactly this is all about, so here's more of the details. (PS- I'm a girl, not a guy!!) I'm a biology student attending school in Canada, and for most courses we get an MIS to complete; this is a Major Independant Study worth a great deal of our mark. For the most part, we get a skeleton of an outline for what to do, and a bunch of options; because our teacher enjoys giving us freedom, she deemed that the MIS for this class could be about whatever we wanted it to be about, as long as it had to do with biology in some way and she approved it first.
Why did I choose MJ of all the choices I had? People in my class were doing anorexia, migraines, Parkinson's disease- I wanted something that would not only be fascinating to learn about, but something I could learn about that would clear up a lot of the fog in my head. I was witness to a bunch of commercials from the US government that advetisted marijuana as the cause of all the world's problems, which sort of confused me for various reasons- if MJ was so bad, why was it not portrayed that way on TV? (If you look at movies, those who smoke weed are always laid back and relaxed while those who do heroin, cocaine or ecstacy start acting really weird). With the exception of Reefer Madness, this seemed to be the first time MJ was advertised in such a horrible fashion.
And what have I learned? What haven't I learned? Here's the breakdown, not only from the amazing hostory I found on this site, but from books and magazines I've collected- MJ was widely used in ancient countries such as China and Egypt for many things, not limited to a food source, a relaxation drug and, in larger doses, a hallucinogenic. The plant was also used to make sails for ships, ropes, etc. It had a wide use of applications. I even found a recipe in a withcraft book for an out-of-body experience, with many poisonous ingredients listed; 40 grams of MJ was one of the ingredients (and from my research, that's a LOT of MJ!!)
See, the pagans used to use MJ all the time for out-of-body/hallucinogenic and otherwise interesting experiences. Once the Catholics gained power, they deemed MJ as a horrible thing related to pagans and the Satan they worshipped, and so it was banned. That was the first war on drugs- not because MJ was bad, but because the catholics wanted to isolate non-catholics in any way they could. (sorry if I've offended anyone religious, but it's on this site's history page!!)
Eventually, MJ came into use again. Actually, it never went out of use- large countries a little to large to be converted to the catholic faith still used it for many reasons. It migrated over to North America with the immigrants and had many useful applications there. However, North Americans decided they no longer liked immigrants and banned MJ because they thought this would cause the immigrants to leave. It didn't work, but MJ was still kept banned. Although it was used in over half the pharmacutical products sold, it was slowly closed down so that America had to import everything hemp from over seas. Later on, Canada tried the same tactic and banned MJ because they decided they no longer liked immigrants either- especially the coloured ones. So allow me to repeat- MJ was banned not because it had any adverse effects; it was banned because North America wanted to get rid of the immigrants[i]. Cool, eh?
Looking online, I found many interesting tidbits.
->It's estimated that pharmacutical companies stand to lose 20% of their profits if MJ is legalized because of the wide range of maladies that MJ cures. Wanna know who the biggest opposition to MJ is...?
->Many companies in the US who want to do unbiased research to examine the properties of MJ have to wait for approval by a branch of the government who refuses to reply to their requests. The companies that [i]have[i] done research and were approved to do research by this 'branch' have stated the many detrimental effects of MJ, even though they appear to have no scientific evidence to back it up, and even then they state some interesting things- such as the fact that MJ smokeables are made using the 'leaf, flower and stem of the cannabis plant'. For all those who are either experienced or have thoroughly researched MJ, you might find this a bit odd. After all, isn't the bud the only part that contains THC?
->Canada enlisted a guy to grow MJ for them so the government could sell it at a ridiculously high price. The guy growing it had never grown MJ before, and high concentrations of arsenic and several other toxis compounds were discovered in the MJ. This MJ was also made using the stem and leaf. As someone I spoke to casually commented, "You might as well smoke grass clippings". It's even been suggested that the government did that to purposely make people sick so they could prove MJ is bad. That or they're trying, in a very horrible fashion, to try and incorporate MJ back into the pharmacutical companies so they can collect taxes from it's use.
Well, that was a lot of writing. I found more, but if anyone has the patience to go through that rambling, I doubt they'll have the patience to go through the rest of it!!
Once again, thanks a bunch and I [I]really appreciate this!! :D :D :D

1. Are you male or female? Male
2. What is your age range (10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, etc)? 10-19 (18)
3. Have you ever smoked or consumed marijauana directly? Yes
4. Have you ever felt any adverse effects (nausea, dizziness, vomitting, headache, etc? Dizziness occationally, but I wouldn't say it's a bad feeling....
5. If not, what sort of effects did you encounter? How long did they last? A nice Euphoric High, just much calmer then before and have a great sense of happiness. They can last anywhere between 30 minutes (bad quality weed) to 4 hours.
Have only drank and smoked marijuana, and no, it didn't have any effect on the marijuana...
7. Do you use marijuana for medicinal or recreational purposes? Both, medicinal in the fact that it gets me to sleep quickly. Otherwise I'm up all hours of the night regardless of whether I want to fall asleep or not (had that same effect before trying marijuana, marijuana simply cured the problem)
8. Does your consumption of marijuana interfere with any of your activities (job or school)? Out of school. Interfere? Not really, while I can be high working, all it does is make me work harder, because it makes me concentrate better.
9. If you use marijuana for medicinal purposes, do you suffer from a disease such as AIDS, cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, etc? No
10. If you suffer from a disease that isn't one of tha above, which disease is it? How does the inhalation and/or consumption of marijuana help you?
11. Are you able to buy your marijuana from a deisgnated grower, or do you buy your marijuana from an illegal source? Why? Isn't a designated growere still an illegal source? lol.... Call it an Illegal source... but it's a friend.
12. Have you ever tried marijuana issued by the government? If not, why? If so, what is your opinion of it- price, quality, accessibility, etc? Haven't had it.
13. What is your opinion about the accessibility of marijuana? Do you believe marijuana is a gateway drug? Explain. Do you have any other comments? Marijuana is more accessible then cigarettes to minors, alcohol to minors, or any other drug. Around here it is everywhere. I don't believe Marijuana is a gateway drug, if anything was it would be alcohol. With Marijuana you can keep your senses and a level head (speaking from my personal experience) and alcohol can make you an incoherent and lose concentration. I tried cigarettes while drunk and I can garauntee I wouldn't have tried them sober (or even smoking herb... cigarettes are addicting)
Other Comments: People who use marijuana aren't as bad of people as society thinks. It's a recreational hobby where you can relax and just hang out with some friends (or by yourself)... but most of the people consuming marijuana are usually good people, if you can get by societies view of potheads.

2. What is your age range (10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, etc)?

hell yes.
4. Have you ever felt any adverse effects (nausea, dizziness, vomitting, headache, etc?
the very first time, i felt all of those.
5. If not, what sort of effects did you encounter? How long did they last?
one way to explain it, it was like a wheel of fortune was spinning around in my head.
6. If you have discovered adverse effects (nausea, dizziness, vomitting, headache, etc) after inhaling or consuming marijuana directly, do you think the effects may have been the reult of taking another drug before using marijuana, such as a painkiller, an alcoholic beverage or some other kind of medication?

no.
10. If you suffer from a disease that isn't one of tha above, which disease is it? How does the inhalation and/or consumption of marijuana help you?
i suffer from introspective excretion, it's a fake disease, and if i don't have my marijuana i could lose my mind, or get serious migraines.
11. Are you able to buy your marijuana from a deisgnated grower, or do you buy your marijuana from an illegal source? Why?[b/]
i buy it illegally, of course. why? because i don't grow my own.

you mean crack? no.
13. What is your opinion about the accessibility of marijuana? Do you believe marijuana is a gateway drug? Explain. Do you have any other comments?
as of right now, it's not accessible to me. :( i do believe it's a gateway drug, because it's one of the most harmless "drugs" and once used the person becomes curious about other drugs, assuming that they, too, are harmless...unless of course they are educated on the matter, which i wasn't

10. If you suffer from a disease that isn't one of tha above, which disease is it? How does the inhalation and/or consumption of marijuana help you? when i'm sober i have some sort of stomach problem where i rarely feel hungry and can't eat, or if i do, i get nauseus and can't keep it down. so marijuana regulates my eating a lot of times.

HELL -- A report released Monday by the Afterlife Civil Liberties
Union indicates that nine out of 10 souls currently serving in Hell
were condemned on drug-related sins.
"Hell was created to keep dangerous sinners off the gold-paved
streets of Heaven," ACLU spokesman Barry Horowitz said. "But lately,
it's become a clearing-house for the non-evil souls that Heaven
doesn't know how to deal with."
The disproportionate number of drug offenders in Hell is a result of
God's "get tough" drug policy of the 80s A.D., imposed after Roman
emperor Domitian Flavius introduced opium to his people. God's
detractors say His reactionary "one sin and you're out" rule places
too harsh a penalty on venial drug users.
According to God's law, souls who possess four ounces of illegal
drugs at any point during their mortal lives face a mandatory minimum
sentence of eternity.
High-ranking seraphim in the Eternal Justice Department defended God's law.
"It's all about accountability," the angel Nathanael said. "The rule
of the Lord affords the complementary blessings of freedom and
responsibility, and provides the governing framework under which man
is punished or rewarded according to his deeds. The rules are very
simple: You do the crime, you do the time. Eternity, in this case."
The ACLU report included profiles of hundreds of offenders condemned
to eternal perdition under God's law. Among them is Pvt. Robert
"Bobby Joe" Hetfield, a World War I fighter and amputee who became
addicted to morphine during his last 72 hours of life on a French
battlefield in 1918. As punishment, Hetfield has spent nearly a
century cleaning Beelzebub's dope house every morning by consuming
the urine, excrement, and vomit left by Satan and his revelers.
Another offender listed in the ACLU report is Huachuri, an Incan
peasant who used a coca-leaf-based marital aid in 1311. As
punishment, he is sodomized continually by a winged, razor-penised goat.
Defenders of God's law argue that eternal punishments like these are
the only way to deter other drug users, and preserve order in God's kingdom.
"This is not about revolving-door justice," St. Peter said. "While
the word of God will keep some on the straight and narrow, Heavenly
studies show that eternal damnation is the only deterrent that really works."
Horowitz said that while drug offenders are literally rotting away in
Hell, serial killers and other dangerous sinners are receiving "mere
Purgatorial sentences, thanks to the asking-for-forgiveness
loophole." Purgatory is a minimum-security state of limbo that
affords its occupants the opportunity to repent their sins and
eventually gain admittance to Heaven on good behavior.
"Drug offenders, many of whom have committed no prior mortal sin,
rack up infinite consecutive life sentences," Horowitz said.
"Meanwhile, rapists say they're sorry, recite a few Hail Marys, and
wind up basking in God's divine radiance within 10 years."
Among those who oppose God's laws are the stewards of Hell, who argue
that his harsh anti-drug penalties have taxed the capacities of the underworld.
"I have one ravenous and overworked hellhound assigned to terrorize
12 methamphetamine users," the demon Abracax said. "After 14 hours in
the dog's digestive tract, they are excreted and revived, at which
point, I give them another shot of methamphetamine. The dog's
exhausted--he was originally intended to be responsible for two users at most."
According to Horowitz, even leaving aside questions of civil
liberties in the afterlife, God's drug laws are problematic.
"These laws, simply put, don't work," Horowitz said. "What the
Heavenly hosts need to consider is some sort of angelic
early-intervention program at the pre-death level, or at the very
least, some form of afterlife rehab."

It may be the first controlled substance most people try but more people try the legal drugs alcohol/tobocco before cannabis so they could also be classed as gateway drug. It is human nature to get intoxicated and some people will want to experiment more than others anyway. addiction to drugs is not necessarily the users main problem it may be a symptom or coping strategey for a larger problem (mental or emotional issue/instability). Cannabis should be legalized. The uk crime survey just released show that since cannabis was downgraded from a class B to class C substance (effectively making posession a non arrestable offence) there has been a 1% drop in people using the drug. surely a case for legalization.

"People have a right to control their bodies. To control what goes into their bodies. To control their minds ultimately, 'cause that's what you're talking about if you're talking about psychoactive drugs. You're talking about controlling the contents of your mind, what goes on inside your brain. That's a pretty basic right, you would think." —Jacob Sullum
