Hey everybody-

Heres what once was a leggy, spindly seedling less than a week ago. Its in a 16 oz. dixie cup. In hindsight, i wish i had put it directly into a 1,5 qt. or something like that. Is it ready to transplant? Whaddya think? Looks hearty. Do I want to wait till it gets just root bound enough to hold the soil together, so as to prevent root damage? I would guess that it is rootbound. A friend told me to wait until the cotyleans fell off.

Even though I consider myself a very gentle and consciencious transplanter, I have had alot of problems with transplant shock in the past. Any advice would be apreciated.

I would say YES, transplant it into a larger pot. Becareful not to let any of the soil fall off the roots, just try to tranfer it without disturbing the rootball. Make sure the soil you transplant into has good pH and not TOO nute-rich. Also, good temps make a difference.

Sometimes it takes forever to those cotyledons to fall off, so I personally wouldn't use that as a guideline.

Also, when you transplant, bury it up to or a little past the cotyledons. :D

Good luck.

Well just don't break the roots and expose them too the air too much is what I'd say, I've transplanted my plant and was sorta rough with it roots and all its been doing just fine I even loosened the root ball a little bit.
