So we were dismissed to see what they had to say. They had 3 large screens and a video that lasted 45 minutes long.
As usual, they were about drunk driving and how it affects people's lives. There was a segment on this guy who drove his friend home drunk, and crashed his car into a police station, which killed his friend.
Another segment was on a girl who is now paralyzed because her boyfriend drove drunk.
Another segment was on Native Americans driving while drunk. A PREGNANT girl, her husband, and their two friends all went drinking. Their car fell over a cliff and the husband was the only to survive.
Another segment was on a teenager trying to impress his friends with drunk driving. He hit a wall, his car was engulfed in flames, and he burned to death.
Sad stuff right there. But you know how MADD is? They keep repeating scenarios over and over.
Then it happened:
Driving under the influence of Cannabis
I thought, "oh no". Now, I'm against smoking while stoned and/or drunk.
A 15 minute segment about how driving while high is just as bad as drinking and driving. For "informational purposes" the clip from 'Cheech and Chong Up In Smoke' when they're in the car with that fat joint while parked (because they hit a lightpost) was shown.
The film was over. This lady started to speak about how she lost her daughter because she was driving drunk. The girls started tog et emotional and began to cry.
When that was over, it was question time. The usual questions were asked and such.
This guy then asked, "What does Cannabis have to do with anything? Your organization is called Mothers Against Drunk Driving."
The reply? "It takes control of your mind, just like alcohol" (By the way, at the beginning of the film, they introduced the movie as 'MIND CONTROL')
Same guy, different question, "That's bullshit, there are no scientific facts that say driving under the influence of marijuana is bad. In fact, go on youtube and you can find a video stating otherwise. "
"Please calm yourself."
"No, this is bullshit, all you people do is say the same thing over and over and then somehow have to add marijuana to your 'mind control'"
At the point the principal grabbed him and walked out of the room. He got suspended.
BUT!
As he was being dragged off he said one last thing, which I admit, I haven't paid attention to. Speaking loudly, he added, "Why is it that when an accident happens and the driver is sober, it is nothing else but a freak accident, but when substances are involved, those substances are the cause. SOBER PEOPLE MAKE JUST AS - IF EVEN MORE - STUPID DECISIONS AS DRUNK PEOPLE"
