Fan wiring??

Hey guys, so I got this Hoffman Fan. 115 VAC 50/60hz 200-240CFM. The fan has two lead wires coming from it. They are the same, no + or -. Do I just wire a plug onto the end. Does it matter which way I wire the wires to a plug? No right? I tried both ways and the fan pushes air the same direction (not reversible) but dont want to connect for good and burn the motor if it need to be hooked up a certain way. Alternating current (ac) doesn't have polarity so there is no plus or minus. But AC does follow a path, so you might as well hook up the appliance the right way. Buy a power cord and it will have a black, a white and a green wire inside. Hook the black, white and green wires in the appliance to the same colors in the power cord and you will be fine. If the wires inside the appliance are not black, white and green, look at the schematic for the appliance are determine which wires are hot, neutral and ground. Hook these wires to the power cord with black hot, white neutral and green ground.

The appliance will work with the black and white wires reversed, but it's much better to keep all your electrical stuff connected in the same manner - and it's just as easy to hook it up correctly as incorrectly.

Man.. Just wire those fans up...... no problemo. You can also use a dimmer switch to control the speed of the fan.

ok you dont need the green in a cord ground is mostly worthless... just use the white black (hot/netural) from the cord and splice um into the fan any which way. btw i dont wanna be flamed i AM a electrician so... psh

Man.. Just wire those fans up...... no problemo. You can also use a dimmer switch to control the speed of the fan.
Regular light dimmer switches won't be much good.
Unless the dimmer switch is designed for a fan, you'll burn one after another with time.
