Which is better?
Keep in mind, you can vote rock and still like rap, and vice versa. It's just which do you like BETTER?
Also, do you think rap is declining, and rock is making a comeback?
According to Wikipedia it is.

rap is indeed dying, just the way the man intended it to

Neither can be better, it's just music, you can't judge it whether its better or not. Some people like rap, some people like rock, and others like both.
wikipedia is filled with some good stuff and also its filled with alot of junk too because you can write your own article there, which gives all those people who sit at home and come up with different theories and write them up.
So basically, listen to what you like.
P.S. Music will never die.

i am a fan of both, but rock gets my vote here. a few years ago rap prob would have got my vote, but once i started listening to rock more i was hooked and cant get enough. theres soooo many different subdivisions of it and i like a lot of variety.

in the recent 5 years or so, the rap has gone to absolute SHIT. 2pac and the old school is nice, but the new music put out is just CRAP

Are you talking about metal or rock?
because they're 2 completly different genre's and i think your getting them mixed up
I prefer rock, cant beat old school like floyd or verve.. does anybody here like "lindi farm"? i think i spelt it wrong but theyre a great stoner band :D
I cant stand rap like 50 cent n all that shit, its just somethin teenagers listen to so they can try and sound tough. I like stuff like cypress hill tho
RATM's good.. to me its kind of a mix of punk n rap.

Rock got my vote. Don't like today's rap, oldschool stuff is cool though. I personally think metal is making a comeback.

your trying to compare apples to oranges. rock is an entire class of music, based on several different earlier forms, with numerous sub-classifications. rap is just a sub-genre of r&b, based on a bunch of talentless fools trying to make a quick buck and get their 15 minutes.
bet you can tell which way i voted.;)

Haha I was talking about metal. Some rock too though. I like classic rock though. RATM is pretty good too. And yes, most mainstream rap is grabage, so is a lot of underground too.

Mainstream rap is bullshit, mainstream rock is bullshit. But rock still got my vote.

I want more guitar solos in rock!
Metal is okay, but I'm not too big into it... Classic rock is the best, esp. in the late 70s early 80s.
WE NEED MORE MUSICIANS! I'm tired of all of these 'punk' bands; there are so many of them, punk has lost its meaning. We need people who respect the guitar and KNOW how to play it, instead of just using it for plain repetetive rhythm guitar with mediocre lyrics.
WE NEED A ROCK REVOLUTION!
I like both equally. It depends on what mood im in and what i feel like listening too. I voted for rap though because its probably gonna be the underdog on these forums.

I find the word 'rap' has a bad reputation, so I like to use 'hip-hop' instead (rap [rhythm and poetry] = hip hop). Definitely the under dog on this forum. I was a big rock fan back in the day, but have since developed more than a passion for hip-hop (obviously still love the rock music I've always loved). I don't really like any new rock though. I find it's more alternative rock these days..which is fine, but a lot of it sounds the same to me.
If you know what to look for in terms of hip-hop (Most people who say anything about 'mainstream' or shit on hip-hop music just have no idea what to look for...the word is...naive), you'll find it is definitely not going anywhere. Hopefully all that shitty crunk southern bullshit (which is NOT hip-hop/rap) will die out though. Nas (already working on his next album) and Jay are still kicking at full strength...Em and Jada are coming with new records next year...it's only growing stronger (not to mention the underground artists that are rising)...and hopefully more true hip-hop artists can join the race rather than those talentless gimmick shitheads.

Electronica fans? We don't take too kindly to your folk around here!
Pandas, eh? We don't take too kindly to your folk around here!
JK.
I can't stand mainstream country music, like Tim McGraw and Gretchen Williams. I DO like southern classic rock mixed with a TINY slice of country, like The Eagles. Not songs with lyrics like "I pulled the ole John Deer outta the barn, went to the high school football game, and drove around in my Ford truuuuck" kind of shit.

I agree. I voted rock though. Old school rap like cypress hill, and 2pac, that stuff was good, but since then rap and hip-hop "artists" suck.
Electronica/Trance/Techno is my vote..
Also progressive rock. e.g. Mars Volta
id like to see an iq test done comparing the people who picked rap with the people who picked rock, it would be interesting. also, the two shouldnt be compared, they are nothing alike. to be good rock needs feeling skill and everything in between. to be good, rap needs a good beat, which can literally be hammered out in under an hour. god there are so many different good types of rock too. with rap all the different subgenres you hear really arent that different at all. comparing rock music to rap is like comparing platinum to that film under my fingernails
and im sick of the mainstream argument folks. good is good bad is bad. most mainstream rock is bad too, people are aware that the mainstream isnt all there is.
have a great day:thumbsup:

I think that mainstream music is for ignorant and simple minded people, very unlike most MJ users.
for the most part you are right, ignorant more than simple minded. a lot of people just dont know any better so at the moment the best musicians fly under the radar

get over yourself already...
users are just another cross section of humanity. There's plenty of ignorant and simple minded people in the group. You'd have to be pretty simple minded not to realise that...
;)
Anyway, to the subject at hand... I love rock. I love music that can convey emotion rather than just serve as a background for lyrics. I hear what some of you are saying about hiphop, and you're right. There's some amazingly powerful stuff out there. But it still just feels like words the majority of the time. Rock, well, rock speaks less eloquently, but far more passionately. And there are some amazing poets among the rockers as well.
I've been in a slump lately because rock seems so down and out lately. I find myself listening to the rock from '94-'01 and wondering what changed? I guess the most recent wave has just not been to my liking as much. But I have high hopes for a resurgence soon.
