Just a question, and whether I should be alarmed or not IDK.

Can they test for drugs, be it marijuana, coke, anything without authorization? Reason I ask is that I went to the doctor today, and I am covered under my health insurance. I've had kidney surgery in the past, and my doc decided to go ahead and do a test on me to send in to the lab for urine tests (non drug, other related to check my levels and make sure I'm still doing good after surgery). Should I have any reason to be concerned they just MIGHT do a drug screen? IDK why they would, and they have no reason to and my doctor doesn't know I smoke; but I just want to make sure. Would they be able to test for drugs without my consent?

What about test results. Since my insurance provided through work supplements my doctor visits and testing fee's, would this be grounds for them to get all results from drug tests done; if one was done in the first place? Or does that not apply in this situation, and I can only be tested if I am made aware of it and signed something (like when I did my pre employment test)?

Shit man, sorry to get you worried, but you might wanna be worried.

With surgery and whatnot, people who don't do drugs are more likely to be higher up on the donor list.

I read an article on hightimes before called something like "marijuana isn't lethal, unless your looking for a new liver" and this person failed a drug test (for weed) so they didn't get the liver.

However, I would like to think they would tell you that kinda shit before they went and did it.

Has there ever been a situation where you denied drug usage to your doctor? If you've said "no I don't do drugs" they might not be worried about it and go ahead and test for it with no warning.

I don't know. I'm just sayin'...

Sorry. Hope it works out though.

Nope, never had the situation arise with question or suspicion whatsoever. My pre-employment testing was for nothing more than insurance reasons to cover me driving a company vehicle. Surgery was a year ago, performed by a different doctor. My doctor now took urine and blood just to make sure my levels are still in the right range, and for him to have the counts on his records in his office instead of just my urologists.
