View Full Version : Anyone else into cars?

Anyone on here into cars at all? I do alot of side jobs and side projects when i have free time. I mostly work on FWD SR20's but i've done a RWD SR20 swap before, which was alright.

I had a 12.0 @ 119MPH 200sx SE-R, but i decided to part it out. Fun little car, as you can imagine.

Only thing i've never done on a car is rebuilt a motor. I've taken one apart, but never put one back together.

Anyone else into cars at all?

<------ Oh yeah. All kinds of cars. (except korean cars blech)

My first build was an 18RG swap into a 76 Celica GT. I still remember all the oldtimers at the track just astonished at my 14.1 in that little shitbox. They were way faster, but kept coming over and scratching their heads, WTF? hehe.

Then a Dodge Neon - fully built, standalone, bigass turbo. Kept breaking axles so I quickly went away from FWD. The shop I owned did a lot of high end turbo work - quad turbo dodge hemi, lots of single turbo Supras, twin turbo vettes etc etc. Thats when I built my drift RX-7 and still have it to this day.

Currently I'm restoring a 1986 Lola Indy lights car (Buick GNX turbo motor, about 500hp) and hope to try my hand at open wheel this summer. I'm a little tired of 1/4 miles, and the drift thing has gotten way out of hand, too many kids and not enough talent.

You do anything besides drag race? A RWD SR20DET SE-R sounds like a lot of fun on open track...

I'm pretty much only into drag racing. I only did the RWD swap in my friends 240sx because he couldn't do it himself. He had all the supporting parts, he spent the cash.

I'm actually taking a break from the "going fast" thing, and trying to enjoy driving. I picked up this baby for $700 a few weeks ago:

G20.net Forums - Let me introduce myself..... (http://g20.net/forum/showthread.php?t=59031)

Which incidentally, the WP seized on it today, causing the belt to smoke to shit till it snapped. Nice LOL. Good thing i have spare parts everywhere.

Yeah I hear that - it costs so much to go fast all the time. Besides isn't that Nissans slogan? "Enjoy the drive" :P

Xcrispi should pop in here sometime, I know he is into racing too.

I have to admit though, I do love me some rally-x in the snow with my WRX. A group by me sets up a course on an airport runway. It's the drifter in me, but the 4-wheel slide is totally different. So much fun, even at slow speeds Hopefully we get one more good snowstorm here before the 27th, thats when the next Rally-X is

I love me some drifting with about 2" of snow on the ground in an open parking lot :D :D

I grew up around racing! Currently my family owns 2 blown alcohol funny cars. Are newest one is a remake of an old mach 1 mustang. The other one is a 90s style funny car body with a 550 big block Chevy! That one ran 7.30 in the 1/4.

We also got a 350small block Chevy in a dragster, and we are restoring a 1977 corvette.

Screw that import bullshit :P Its all about American muscle. Na, i guess you gotta work with what you can get eh?

I'll put my 80 CID motor against any similar sized motor you got.. Rotaries FTW!

OK wait no Hayabusas! :D

I have been looking at doing a v8 project here soon. I miss torque. I gotta find something old, ugly and light to put it in though

Yeah... every fucking morning... get up... get into my car... drive to work... get out of my car... work for 8 hours.. then back into my car again...
:D
Actually I had a pretty sweet Jetta that I was building into a replica of the one from Fast and Furious but as soon as I was done with the body work, someone fucking stripped it and I just gave up.
I think it was actually a punk from the shop where I bought the rims; the local cops have been investigating them for cutting keys of cars thye have worked on.

^^LOL (The first part)

Sucks about the second part. I rolled a Jetta over one time while this cheerleader "distracted" me one day. I've owned two of them.

LOL Tokudai ,
Crispis child saftey seat was in the bk. seat of a 1970 ls7 chevelle .
Born -n- raised on the Big Block Chevy . Crispi gets really bored w/ the likes of Nascar , ppl. driving in circles for extended periods of time ? -n- the only thing i honestly find appealing w/ the Nopi / Import thing is all the hotties lol . :)
Crispi currently has a 1979 G-body cutlass w/ a 13to1 comp. 496 chevy . On motor best time was a 10.80-10.90 on a radial tire too , no real slicks . Just fast enough to get booted , no cage / harnesses . lol .
Crispi cant wait to get 1 good run in this yr. w/ the Big Shot sys. on it w/ 225hp. pill .
Peace all

I just finished selling my 68' Camaro, it was so hard to part with. I just finished upgrading my 325 to a 350, but it was time. I am now shopping for my next car, while I drive this peice of shit 87' Tempo. I am stuck between like 4 cars. . .

-Pontiac G5 GT
-2.4L V4 w/173 HP
-$23,100 (my way)
-Saturn Ion Redline
-2.0L supercharged V4 w/205 HP
-$23,500
-Dodge Avenger R/T
-3.5L V6 w/235 HP
-$27,000
-Dodge Nitro SLT
-3.7L V6 w/210 HP
-$25,600

My plan is to lease one of these cars for two years, then purchase the new 2009 Camero. I plan on buying the top Camero so I need to buy a cheap car now and save for that tab. I am kinda leaning toward the G5, but I hate the fact that it's a V4. Thats why I like the Redline with all it's push. I am big on sound systems and that is why I chose these four. they all come with desent sound setups, except the saturn. That nitro got sounds, I even was thinking the XB for like a day, just because of the trunk space. . .

as you found out in the other thread lol.. i'm into cars, but i go for top speed... street racing, not my thing, drag racing, now that's my thing (by street, i mean a set course, including turns) the reason being, (mostly) is a drag race, will REALLY tell you how fast you are... street racing requires a certain skill to, but that's more about how to handle the car, not how quick you can shift and what not ... o.0

the above post.. well thanks for telling me about that... cuz that car is nice looking.. (i think it was '06, might have been 05' challengers looked like total shit....)

give me pure american muscle.... i'm sure those imports can give you a good run for your money.. but i'd rather have a v-8 to be working with.

my absolute dream (project i want to build it MYSELF, from the ground up) is a 69 camaro ss...

but yeah, uh ::wiping off the laptop screen::, i do the whole car thing too. but again, fuck imports. there's no replacement for displacement. argue all you want, but plain and simple, it's the truth.

here's mine. 75 silverado, original paint (this color was only offered in 75, rare color) with new clear coat. interior is all original. it's got a crate 383 stroker (using the original block) topped with a holley 670 street avenger carb. rebuilt th350 (which will sometime in the future be swapped for a 5 speed), full msd ignition, hooker headers, dual 2 1/4" flowmaster and plenty of other fun stuff. right now it's on 20" centerlines but once i finish my 2.5/4drop (hopefully within the next few weeks) i'll be saving for some 16" smoothies or baby moons

How can you hate the lowrider look, it's the only thing keeping old cars alive. Me personally, I love the 50's. After I finish paying off the camaro, I plan on working on this merc. I found in the desert. It's amazing there is almost no rust on it. . . I would gladly trade it for a Hornet though, thats my dream car. . . besides my camaro.

because it's not? dude classic cars can look good without putting them an inch off the ground, some ridiculously small or large rims on it, putting something on it to make it bounce (one of the most retarded things to ever be put on cars IMHO)

of course this is just me but he low ryder look is retarded... if i had the choice between say, a 50's model stock (of course all new paint and what not, not some run down crap) then retarding it up with that crap..

see now that's a car... but certain people would get it.. (mainly hispanic people around here do this) put some little bitty like 15 inch tires on it that stick out nearly 4 inches out fo the side, put some hydros on it and drive around dragging their bumper around... (back end down, front end up)

to me that shit is just retarded... to me that's like a desecration to a good car...

then there's the ones (usually on bigger body cars) they put like 22 inch rims on it... where the hit a peice of gravel in the road and the tires start scraping the wheel well and again, the car is like an inch off the ground...

Well being hispanic, I guess I am a little bias, I think those cars are cool (although I don't think I would ever do something like that). I'm not big on hydros, but I love putting air bags in a ride. Why keep a car mint when you can personalize it. I'll try to dig up some pic. from all the cars in my life.

A nice car in my opinion either is dropped or a sleeper. I've seen plenty of guys who like to restore cars cherry, but they get over it and trick it out. it's just right. . .

there are very very few cars i like slammed. most cars look really really gay when their completely laid out. the other things i really hate on cars include big ugly mexican spoked rims, ricers/imports, and huge rims on old cars. even my rims are too tall for my taste, but they were on the truck when i bought it and the original wheels arent wide enough to handle the 450 ponies :)

i'm not saying the car it'sself is shit.. i just think it's ridiculous everyone wants one lol... because of the name attatched to it.. just as an example, those rich guys who buy 'em to pick up chicks.. c'mon man, if you gotta have that car to get the chick, you're better off without the chick...

and then, because it's so fancy, you gotta worry about someone keyign it when you're not looking just to be a complete dickhead... it's like a magnet for vandalism... just like the H2's where for awhile.. dunno if it was goign around in your area, but there were people around here going around and keying them and all kinds of shit....

Before the EVO came to the US, they released a crappy NA 2.0 version called the Lancer (2002). I bought one, threw over $10k into it and made it a decent 280whp car... Then some dumb ass African lady did an illegal u-turn in front of me and totalled it. I took the cash, bought an R1, but sold it last year to buy my current car.

A K04 Turbo'ed 02 VW GTi. FMIC, electronic dump, 3" full exhaust, pulleys, clutch etc... I haven't dynoe'd it yet but should be around 300. I am battling a bad MAF right now but should get it cleared up this week. My other car is an '01 VW Jetta Wolfsberg Edition, stock...

glad she totaled the lancer :) they're ugly. the gti would be a nice car if you get rid of the carbon hood. i think carbon hoods are one of the gayest mods ricers put on their cars besides body kits, wings, fart cans and carbon trunk lids. otherwise, nice vw. i'd drive one for sure

muscle for me only... well and older dodge, gmc/chevy trucks... hate fords, hate imports (some are nice, but not my thing... i can appreciate the car, but it's not something i'd own if i had a choice) hate those big ass granny cars.. (grew up with 'em... when i was really young we had a fifth avenue, then an 80's model lincoln town car, now a 90's model lincoln town car... i loook at the car and see all that horsepower wasted...)

Word Four50. My favorite is when the wannabees just take their normal hood off and paint it black... WTF! :D
Damn Plastic Jesus, you've got good taste in vehicles... I'm currently on Jetta #2... looking forward to either Corrado #1, or if that fails, I'll settle for a GTI... hahahahahaha!!!
I know you love my office decor... especially the Jetta matchbox car on top of the bulletin board... lol!!!

Yeah.. I'm not sure how I feel about the CF hood on the GTi. The Lancer hood was not only lighter but helped dissipitate heat from the turbo which was prone to melt regular hoods. I really want a new set of wheels, something in a staggered set-up maybe 18"s but WIIIDE rear tires...

The GTi came with the Hood. As far as Euro's go, the CF isn't really my thing, but the fitment is good so I will keep it for a while. Thanks for the positive comments!
