You absorb the THC and other cannabinoids in smoked cannabis through a transaction in the tiny air sacks of your lungs, which is the furthest point the smoke travels to in your respiratory system. All your pal could remotely be spitting out would be traces of resin or particulate matter on his tongue. It might contain microscopic amounts of THC if you analyzed it in a lab, but he's not really wasting anything good or lessening an opportunity for a better high by spitting.

hmm, i would think that there would be thc in the saliva (as they do have saliva drug tests) but i'd also think that the majority of the thc would be absoberd through the alvioli as the lungs process the "air" in your lungs.
but i realy wouldn't know... sorry

I could be wrong but my theory contradicts this one so I thought I would add this in.
I believe it is actually the large ventricles in your lungs that marijuana goes through. This is the oposite of ciggarettes and why you (well theoreticaly) can't get emphysyma and other lung related illnesses from cannabis. The tobacco attacks the small ventricles(wrong word?) and makes it harder to breathe and cuases emphysyma and all sorts of bad stuff.:rastasmoke:

No, that's not true. In fact when ever I exhale outside most of the time I spit regardless, well not spit like with force but just get all the saliva out of my mouth. It's just a habit lol.

It's absorbed to a much lesser extent along the larger bronchial tubes, too, but the bulk of the blood-gas-THC/lipophilic exchange occurs in the alveoli. That's really the only area of the lungs that allows for the microscopic exchange of any chemical, whether it's cannabis/THC, cigarette smoke/nicotine, or environmental toxins like benzenes. In the development of aerosolized THC-containing meds, they've also found that the bulk of the best aborption occurs in the alveoli. (Google "alveolar absorption of THC" and you can see some of the abstracts about the development/transmission of those meds.)
You have to read pretty far down in this link, but you'll see the alveolar details in here:

You overestimate me, Slip! I really have only just this year gotten into the deep science of it. The only stuff I've done till now has either been reading all Dave's books and mags, which are basically like manuals for heart-doc plumbers and electricians, or practical stuff like paramedicine/first aid, which doesn't deal with the science as much as the practical procedures. So I'm really only just now learning about the chemistry of how pulmonary absorption works. Like literally within the last few months as we've been, yep, cutting up dead people's lungs and learning how all the goodies get into and out of us through there. (And the baddies.)

Of course you yelled at your friend for breaking the golden rule of a hotbot. Thus giving him a firm lashing of the backhand. :pimp:

well i'm sure there is some THC in your saliva if you hold the smoke in your mouth, but the only reason why i would do that is to savor the sweet taste of smoke after not smoking for sooooo long. take it in. off you go. ah sweet cheeba.
Edit: and the counsiquence of that is cotton mouth. COTTONMOUTH FTL!!!
