Walmart CFL's

I bought a 3 pack of 26 watt cfls from walmart the other day for like 7 bucks but cant tell whether they are 5000K or what. They dont look orangy but it doesnt say on the pacakge. Anybody know?

They should say something like soft white, cool white or warm white, or something along those lines. The cool white bulbs are usually in the blue spectrum, the soft white are usually in the middle of the spectrum, and the warm whites are in the red spectrum.

I bought both the daylight cfl's and the cool white cfl's from Wal-Mart for my veggin' and I didn't notice any difference in growth between the two. I did notice a drastic color difference, the cool white ones look like my HPS and the daylight ones look like my MH but it didn't seem to matter.

haha the walmart in LAX funny, but I'm using 2000k and 6000k bulb right now myself from walmart as well 26ws and a 42w one from the menards next door

What are the kelvin temps on your Warm Whites? and Cool whites?

just curious cuz most Warm CFLS are orangy much like a HPS and Cool whites are usally white like a MH....

And you can get CFLs anywhere.. Wal;mart or whatever... Special T5s and grow bulbs are better yes.. but you can pull good grows with CFLS. from walmart..... Dont diss em Love emm.....

good call Invision. Harddon, you can offer a lot to this site but that last comment didn't do shit for anybody except angrify some people. And on a personal note, i very much so prefer the walmart bulbs over "real" CFL. they're cheaper, you can space them out, and they veg better than my 400 watt MH for the first month after potting. I have the warm white (~6500 K) ones too. to each their own though.

They have their place and they have their purpose...like in your lamp.

Yes, they will grow a weed, but so will a regular light bulb. And if you get some good ones, you dont need many...3 or 4 at the most.

Point is, why bother growing weed while sacrificing the most important part of the entire process....LIGHT.

And for you know it alls, WARM WHITE carries Kelvins in the 2000-3000 range.

Cool whites carry Kelvins at 5500+. Get your facts straight or stop buying those cheap American Lighting pieces of shit lights. Don't think youre gonna teach me about lights.

Here are a couple of pics of REAL CFL's. The short ones are awesum, 26.00 each or so...the longer ones are great as well...but cost 100.00

If price is an issue, maybe you shouldn't be playing this game. If you insist, BUY A SHITLOAD...LIKE 30...of the wal-mart CFL's.

You grow more weed per plant. 10X more weed with proper lighting.

Show me some pics like these of 25 day plants with your Wal Mart bulbs. YOU CANNOT. The smaller plants on the left are day 10....and the ones on the right, larger ones, are day 25. They will grow thick and bushy at 1/2" per day starting on days 18-21.

These were from seeds in 25 days with TRUE 5500K CFLS. The smaller bulbs are 65 Watts and the longer ones are 125 Watts.

You can get them at any place legit that sells medical lighting. A good place is:

Hey now, why don't we all sit down, smoke a spliff and just use HIDs. Let me make a comparison, would you heat your house with a space heater or a furnace? they both work but the furnace does it better/faster. Not trying to knock cfls since they do work, but using them is comparatively like opening a window shade, HIDs are like tearing off the roof.
Guarantee this "fight" would not have begun if you both had an MH or HPS burning right now...

His reaction to your earlier comment was uncalled for, but to me it doesn't sound like you dont give regular CFLs enough credit. i have seen what 8 42 watt bulbs can do with mylar and its not shit weed at all. I can't post pics cuz i dont have a camera, but you sound overly skeptical. I don't want to brag or anything cuz thats the sign of a truly ignorant person, but my plants that were under 8 26 watt walmart bulbs were definitely bushier than yours at day 25 veg. I say this only in defense of walmart CFLs and not to brag. Sorry i dont have pics though.

Sorry for the typos in the previous comment. I think you get what im saying though. Thank you for correcting me on the kelvin value of warm white bulbs, Harddon. Somebody told me once that the warm whites are 6500 K and i made the mistake of believing them without researching myself. Also, a regular light bulb will not grow weed, i made this mistake many years ago haha.

Well here ya go chuckles - Obviously they aren't going to be as bushy as your huge dollar flouro jobbers, but for the pennies they cost in comparison, they veg just fine for me. Replaceable at 2am if I had to. I bloom under HID's so thats not an issue. These plants were all under 4-23 watt daylight bulbs - actually purchased from Walmart.

It's only about 18 days after clones were xplanted though, so I have a few days to catch up with yours.. ;)

I'd love to learn more about lights, I think I'll go look at that 1000bulbs place, but the only one was that big one homey has above and someone told me not to get it and get ones at home depot so I did. I'm happy. I think she's happy too..

And yea my 5500K "day light" cfls look like a MH
And the 2700K is that more yellow warm look like the HPS

Its working decent for the price lemme say. My exhaust isn't very large either so heat would worry me. I'm in a bodom box that I can fit inside hehehe. Space is limited ya know =D

When you do the upgrade to HID (even 2 150w hps will make a big difference) take those cfls and put them in every light in your house; when I did, my bill dropped 20% (enough to completely offset the cost of running my current light setup) and some of the bulbs are 5 years old now. Cheers to you being cost-effective however, happy growing and good luck with your wiring project ;) .

just got back from walmart. they didn't have anything higher than 26watt, and they are all SOFT WHITE. i'm just using them for veg. can i veg with just soft white or should i get something higher on the Kelvin spectrum? perhaps from home depot?

You can do very well with the right CFL lights for vegging, I have seen it many times. So stop trying to blow your flame up peoples asses. Here is a photo of two nice plants and one sweet Dwarf, after 28 DAYS With just Cheap ASS CFLS. The Picture was taken because the T-45 was added that day. CFL's can do very well during Veggiing.

the 42 watters=150 watts "general purpose" from wal-mart and are good for flowering i bought one plus six 23 wattersthere orange glow they good for flowering..
