Lungs repair themselves

I was just thinking how ive heard lungs repair themselves....now i know if u smoke a whole lot ur lungs probably could'nt keep up repairing....but say u only smoke on the weekends...could ur lungs end up being fine because they repair?

or is that just bs

i read somewhere that cannabinoids aid the lung in repairs....
