though he makes some very valid (and obvious) points, this sounds more like russia attempting to throw its hat back in the super-power ring.
of course the u.s. war machine is overstepping international authority, until there is a potent international authority there is no one to stop it. in a world dominated by petty squabbling, the biggest stick wins and the u.s. has that stick. the only thing that trumps the big stick is economic sanction and with corrupt politicians around the world depending on u.s. baksheesh no one is going to play that hand.

This sounds allot like what America was saying about the former USSR when they were in places like Afghanistan. And it wouldn't surprise me if allot of these insurgents are trained by Russian intelligence like the CIA trained the Talaban.
