I know what you are saying...There seems to be a wealth of detailed information on flowering, but the information pertaining to the vegging/seedling stages is hard to sift through. I guessed. I definitely seem to be doing better with the seeds that I did not plant a full inch down. Half to an eighth seems to work better.

for lack of a better answer..( i dont know what soil they sell in the US)
get a general multi-purpose compost, preferably saying "for seelings/re-potting"
then you can be more sure that its not going to contain loads of fert that will harm the young plants.
compost for mature plants is generally a bit hotter on the ferts and should be avoided.

avoid anything with added fertiliser if possible ie: if its called "mega hyper charge 2000 with extra steroids" it should be avoided.

then use about 25% perlite in the mixture.

thats your basic run of the mill grow media for soil.

or just ask the assistant for a "mild soil for seedlings"

also avoid any "complete" soil like miracle grow that supposedly contains all the ferts needed for the life of the plant, they usually cause problems as they are not balanced properly for cannabis.

with your seeds they should take between 1-10 days to sprout, make sure they stay moist but not soaking wet. make sure they dont dry out.

i would maybe leave the ziploc bag un-zipped, it might get to humid in that warm room...
the plastic shoud still retain the moisture in the paper towels enough but youll just have to see how it goes., check them twice a day if poss and add a teaspoon of water if they are getting dry.

as far as planting goes, ive always put the seed just blelow the surface of the soil...

use a pencil or simmilar to make a little hole, put the seed in, root facing down, and gently sprinkle a bit of soil on top to just cover the seed....always works for me:D

ohh thanks babystarbud....that really answer my question, until i get to the part after putting the seed in the soil but im sure wat to do..clarify some1 plz. place under light 24/0 (using one 26w cfl's for now for vegattive state and i will get more wen its start to sprout more), water every other day or so, and wait for it to grow for about 2-3 weeks then give it nutes..am i right?

Babystarbud..keep me inform...i read ur thread wen u did ur grow and it was awesome too wish i could of smoke it wit ya hahah lolz

personally i use a cycle of 18/6 for seedlings and veg,

im not a fan of cfl's because they just aint as good as HPS, but you could buy a cheap one, say a 250 or preferably a 400watt, much better compact growth, i just dont see the point of buying loads of cfl's and then having to wire them all up for average results when you could just save the cash for a 400 watt HPS, and get good results...

belive me, ive done the same thing, save your cash and buy a decent lamp.

babystarbud..not sure how to get my hands on hps..do i have to buy a whole lamp to use hps or can i put it in a lamp like at home like i would for cfl's

nooo, an HPS needs a starter (ballast) simmilar to a power supply, they usually come in a kit, bulb, ballast and reflector.

juss for an update i juss germinated two seeds and now they are in the pot with some 75% potting soil and 25% perlite...have one light per plant....how much water should be poured in for about in a qt pot size and how many time should it be watered?

babystarbud

at this size they wont need much, i would say about a mouthfull of water per seedling every couple of days, youll just have to use your judgement a bit but you soon get a feel for it, you dont want saturation at this stage, but you dont want them to dry out either...somwhere in the middle try to maintain a moist-ish balance.

Okay, you have got to read some more. Babystarbud has been really chill with you, but you can't expect people to hold your hand through this entire enterprise. You'll get a lot of good advice and support here, but you need to be a little more independent and adventurous.

if i have a question i rather have a straight answer becuz i want hav the decision from someone who is a pro instead of having to search for it...

anyways i have a question for all u grower except him but i have the 26W cfl's running about two or three inches from the soil...it seems like it burning it becuz the perlite is turniing a bit brown on top soil...should i bak the light a bit from the soil?

Hon, everybody would rather have a straight answer. But we've all had to make our mistakes, and we've all learned to use the search feature on the forums. People get a little tired of answering the same questions from newbies over and over again. If you run a search on something and still can't find the answer, then it's cool to post a question.

Oh, and perlite comes from volcanos. You don't have to worry about burning perlite. The discoloration you're seeing is salts from the water/soil.
