hi all,

I was browsing through some news this morning and I found a story that I found quite silly. I was actually looking for the story where I watched on TV that toddler accidentaly glued his eyes closed with super glue, and the father tried to remove it using acetone. Not only did the kids eyes stay closed, he suffered chemical burns of his face...but anyways...

There is a new law in the States where married couples have to have children within 3 years of marriage, or it will be annuled. Read below:

OLYMPIA, Wash. - An initiative filed by proponents of same-sex marriage would require heterosexual couples to have kids within three years or else have their marriage annulled.

Initiative 957 was filed by the Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance. That group was formed last summer after the state Supreme Court upheld Washington's ban on same-sex marriage.

Under the initiative, marriage would be limited to men and women who are able to have children. Couples would be required to prove they can have children in order to get a marriage license, and if they did not have children within three years, their marriage would be subject to annulment.

All other marriages would be defined as "unrecognized" and people in those marriages would be ineligible to receive any marriage benefits.

â??For many years, social conservatives have claimed that marriage exists solely for the purpose of procreation ... The time has come for these conservatives to be dosed with their own medicine," said WA-DOMA organizer Gregory Gadow in a printed statement. â??If same-sex couples should be barred from marriage because they can not have children together, it follows that all couples who cannot or will not have children together should equally be barred from marriage."

Supporters must gather more than 224,000 valid signatures by July 6 to put the initiative on the November ballot.

Opponents say the measure is another attack on traditional marriage, but supporters say the move is needed to have a discussion on the high court ruling.

EDIT: I removed the second one as it was kind of disturbing, but instead, this is a little more funny. :p

No more porno!

MANAMA, Bahrain — A local lawmaker has introduced legislation that would impose a 1-year prison sentence for anyone found guilty of downloading Internet pornography, according to a report in the Gulf News.
Council of Representatives member Abdullah Al Dossari introduced the measure as part of a comprehensive bill of fines and jail terms targeting illegal behavior online, which he said runs the gamut from pornography to economic crimes.

“We have noted an alarming surge in cyber crimes resulting from impressive technological developments, but the perpetrators are not always punished,” Al Dossari said. “I am submitting this bill to deter anyone who wants to steal money or disseminate destructive ideas or spread vice.”

The bill would impose a 1-year jail term on anyone found guilty of using the Internet to download, possess, host, publish or otherwise distribute pornographic content.

While a number of countries in the region have balked at allowing their citizens to access the Internet, Bahrain has taken a different tact. In its bid to become the telecommunications hub of the Persian Gulf, the island nation has made Internet access widely available. But access to the Internet has caused distress among religious authorities.

Islamic leaders have complained that authorities have not done enough to block sexually explicit material from entering the country via the Internet.

The Ministry of Information has denied that charge, saying that it has blocked a number of pornographic websites.

This is the last one here. :)

This story says a dad poisoned his own children in hopes of winning a lawsuit.

ATLANTA - A man admitted Tuesday that he tampered with his children's soup in an attempt to get money from Campbell Soup Co., a prosecutor said.

William Allen Cunningham's 3-year-old son and 18-month-old daughter were hospitalized twice in January 2006. He forced them first to eat soup laced with hot peppers and lighter fluid, and the second time used the prescription drugs Prozac and Amitriptyline - both used to treat depression - to poison the children, authorities said.

Cunningham, 41, pleaded guilty to communicating false claims, U.S. Attorney David Nahmias said. Under terms of a plea agreement, he faces up to five years in federal prison when he is sentenced April 19. advertisement

"He admitted that he put potentially life-threatening foreign substances into soup, which he fed to his two young children and then placed a call to Campbell Soup Co. falsely claiming that the soup had been contaminated," Nahmias said.

According to prosecutors, Cunningham called Campbell and threatened to sue. Authorities say there was no evidence the soup was tainted when it was bought.

Reminds me of the "candy man" that lived in my area, he put poinon in his kids candy on halloween to try and get insurance or some crap he was obviously caught. That is why trick-or-treating is illegal in my town, but it's never enforced

That's totally the point... they're pushing the initiative as a symbolic measure, a way to make people realize how totally fucked the argument against gay marriage because they can't breed is.

Right... that's the point... get it?

They aren't trying to pass that law.

It's completely ludicrous. They know it, you know it, everyone knows it.

The whole thing is intended to make people look closely at their beliefs about what marriage means... it is love, or simple procreation? If it's just love, as people will HAVE to admit, then there goes another dumb anti-gay argument.

They are just trying to get publicity/exposure/discussion going at the highest levels of government.

Ya dig?

Kinda like a brick wall...

It should always be about love. Except when it's about sex, but that only happens in vegas.
