Try the Racounteurs (sp), Jack Whites new band. I swear, every song on that cd sounds like a tribute to one great band or another.

Phil Lesh and Friends
Ratdog

Both good ex-Dead members, and they can still kick some ass.

Or try Zilla or The Pnuma Trio for a more trancier feel, and it's all improv jam. ~

Classical/instrumental/postrock/epic: Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Max Richter,

Techno/electronic: Juno Reactor, Lords Of Acid, Paul Oakenfold, Wrecked Machines

IDM, trippy electronic: Boards of Canada, Autechre, Future Sounds Of London

Hip Hop/trip hop/chillout/downtempo: Lemon Jelly, Clouddead, Why?, Boom Bip and Dose One, Kruder and Dorfmeister

Psychedelic/kraut/expiremental Rock: GONG (angels egg, wingful of eyes albums), Faust, BRAINTICKET (stick to cottonwoodhill and psychonaut albums, both soooo perfect for smoking) , Acid Mothers Temple (New Geocentric Wold album), Algarnas Tradgard.

Drone/ambient/passout music: Beef Terminal, STARS OF THE LID, The Dead Texan.

Acoustic/poppy/expiremental bands: edIT (more hip hop/glitch hop, still very good), Animal Collective (great), The Books, Islands.

Also, pandora is shit compared to LASTFM

I'm getting pretty sick of that whole "we're indie we don't make money so buy our shit and be part of the indie group" fad.
I don't care whether you make money.
I'm going to steal your music if it's good either way.

Do I feel bad about this? Not really. If they're making enough money to be noticed, then they're making enough to be stolen from.

Electric President
Dredg
Porcupine Tree
Two Loons for Tea

And Inferius, as for the whole indie label thing... well, you do seem to listen to a lot of anticon... ;)

lmao.

Most of them aren't making much and depend on concert revenue. Everyone steals these days, not everyone attends concert to support the bands they supposely like. That's the difference between one that just listens to music, and one that loves music.

The music industry now is more ultra-competitive than before, due to the internet, and DIY age. Every band vying for even a little attention. All bands know their shit's going to be stolen. But they can sleep soundly knowing they'll always be people who enjoy live music and supporting bands they like, one way or another.

Btw, Eddie Hazel, man that guy just warms my heart with his guitar.

I have a question for all you indie listeners. What I don't understand about the whole culture is how you believe the music to be so great. Some of it isn't bad at all, for example, dredg. But the vast majority of bands you listed and I downloaded could not hold a candle to Sublime or Rage Against the Machine.

I've heard indie rocker guys dog on Sublime for selling out but in all honesty more people like Sublime over probably all these indie bands you've all listed put together. I admit some of our more recognized music is shit but it still draws more fans than anything indie. So how could you say that indie is that much better.

Sorry, Im high, and I hope that doesn't come off wrong. I dont dislike the music I just can't get into it. No disrespect. Just looking to understand the whole culture.

Most people don't know what indie is, and anyone who calls Sublime sell outs is retarded. All that indie is is an idea, that works. Instead of waiting around, trying to get attention, make it happen on your own. We're in a new age of music, where record labels are not needed. For anything. Indie does not imply a genre, at all.

d/l the Bar-Kays "Soul Finger"

I started using pandora when I reformatted my computer and lost all my songs, didn't get a chance to save it cause it just stopped working one day. I really didn't feel like dl'ing more shit and I found out about that and it definetly led me to more music all of which I listen to now often. If you'd like to know more just check out pandora.com you should be able to figure it out from there.
