View Full Version : Shrink a Fitted Hat?

So I sort of have a slight dilemma here. I ordered a fitted hat online and it just arrived. I knew it was going to be a bit big...but whoa...it's absolutely huge on me (it was the smallest size...6 7/8).
So now I don't know what to do...it's such a nice hat...I would love to try and shrink it to my head size (I have a very small head), but it's also a pretty expensive hat, and I don't want to fuck it up or have it end up not fitting anyway.
I know you can use hot water to try and shrink it...any other ideas guys? Washer and dryer or something? By the way...it's 100% wool. And I need to really shrink this bitch inorder for it to fit...I mean ALOT..like the WHOLE hat, not just the brim LOL. I could also just return it, but it's so nice, I love the color...I dunno what to do!! Any opinions on the matter would be great...

Either dry clean or hand wash. It says putting it in the washing machine could ruin the shape. It's a 'baseball cap'...New Era 59-Fifty to be exact. I'm thinking of trying the hot water...you said it will shrink ALOT...do you mean ALOT or ALOT? LOL...I just don't want to be stuck with this slightly expensive hat that 'kinda fits' haha.
And gee...could you elaborate if you can...

how about sticking an air compressor in your ears and making your head grow instead? in retrospect, that would probably be easier..

everytime i've stuck a hat in a washing machine, it's completely ruined it... i would return it if i were you... i mean you say it's fairly expensive.

Yeah,,, a baseball cap would be ruined,,, Email the place you got it and see their policy... if you soak it in hot water the parts that don't shrink "non wool" will make the cap look deformed...

Yeah...I can either send it back...or just return to their store (Lids) up at the plaza. I'm definitely not putting it in the washer...and if I soaked it, it's 100% wool, so wouldn't it all shrink? I'll probably end up returning it...it's a shame really lol.

That is what I was thinking.
You probably should return it, cause you know it is going to get fucked up.
