I was talking to my friend today and he's quite new to cannabis. He's never smoked it and he doesn’t plan to, but he’s interested in eating weed brownies.

Anyway, according to some website he found, Columbian weed is better than homegrown. I told him that home grown is better but he wants proof. So I figured, let me ask cannabis.com

Him:

- Outdoor is better because of natural sunlight.
- Columbian (or other imported) marijuana is one of the best kinds.
- Home grown doesn’t have proper lighting or something like that.
- Home grown uses chemicals, while naturally grown doesn’t.

Me:

- Depends on how it’s grown.
- Homegrown is generally better than imported weed (ex: The cheap shit from Mexico)

I will be printing out this thread and making him read it.

Thanks for replies in advance.

Homegrown cannabis is going to be ALOT better than ANTHING you could ever buy. [When i say homegrown, i mean grown by you]

Weed on the streets has been grown, bagged, given to the couriers, re bagged, given out to the big time dealers, re bagged, given out to the semi big dealers, rebagged and given to the small time dealers. All this rebaggin is knocking off trichomes. Therefore, less potent.

But saying that, ANY weed can be bad.

homegrown man, screw getting weed from Colombia, whats he thinking?
just find a homie you know that grows, so you can get it right from the grower, or a dealer that gets it straight from the grower.. you can usually tell if they do by the quality of there weed and how honest they are with you..
i get my weed from a few different growers... all very very potent good buds.

why dont you just get some mexican weed, and get some homegrown and just smoke them in person, you will find out whats better

Homegrown is the best if the grower knows what they're doing. :)

But really, it all depends on the care the grower puts into it, the soil, temp. conditions, nutes, and of course, a good phenotype is the #1 key to getting quality cannabis.

Indoor HPS/MH lighting is almost identical to the natural sunlight outdoors, HPS being the closest.

Outdoors can create a lot of problems too. You can get pests, bad weather, and too hot of weather. Cold weather will result in slow growth, which can effect the precise harvest time with stunted growth. Frost is a common problem outdoors. Pests are a pain in the ass, same with animals too. I have had deer ravish my plants down to a stick, and have had bugs eat at my buds and lay shit in the buds. Hot weather can result in major stretching, it can burn your leaves, dry up your soil in a matter of hours, and even burn the buds if not properly shaded.

The only way to do outdoors is by closely monitoring your crop. In Colombia, they are known for quality nose candy, not cannabis. Their cannabis is probably the same as Jamaica's. Jamaica has dirt weed everywhere, and the good stuff is really expensive, and not super mind blowing.

Some of the best weed I ever smoked was homegrown, and some of the worst was in Jamaica.

^ He's got it in one. That's how it is. If your friend wants to think he knows it all let him, he can live in his own world of ignorance. ^

Sounds like your buddies website is taking info from the 70's. I mean "Columbian" ? My guess is that the amount of Columbian weed being brought into the U.S these days is slim to none. The majority of weed consumed in the U.S now is grown in the U.S. with Canada coming in second. I was reading an article a while back that said that even most "Mexican" sold in the U.S is actually grown in California. Although typically by the same Mexican's that were previously involved in bringing it over the border. It seems it's cheaper to grow here in Cali with less risk of being caught. LOL.

Obviously, many of the people that are speaking negatively about "Columbian" have never had any. We used to get sticky red and gold buds from Columbia that had very high THC levels. There is NO WAY that this stuff was similar to crappy Jamaican, as one person suggested. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any Columbian for well over 20 years.

Thai is grown outdoors, and is incredible - but only a few people can get the real thing, and pay enormous amounts when it's available.

There's many other outdoor varieties that are as good, or better, than most any indoor grown types. Black Gungi was one of them. Many Hawaiian types are also very, very good.

Having your own grow op is the only way to go. You get entire control over everything that goes into and comes out of the plant. These fucked up commercial grow ops produce simply for money, and the bud lacks the attention an individual could give it, since it is produced in extremely large quantities.
