I sometimes visit a web forum for adoption, and today I read a post by a woman who saw an Oprah show about adoption, and she thought it was so great, until it was "marred by the dark intrusion" of a story about a gay couple who were foster parents.
Well, there's nothing that gets my knickers in a knot like prejudice , and by the way, the board is predominantly hard-core Christians (!) so I found it particularly repugnant coming from someone who claims to "love baby Jesus."
So I sent my own little message, saying that Jesus would be appalled by such bigotry etc, etc...and now the right wing Christians are duking it out with the Christians who accept gays! There seem to be an equal number on each side. I am relieved that not all the Christians on the site are stuck in the Old Testament, but I worry about the ones that are, and what they will be teaching their kids. To suggest that a loving gay couple is not fit to care for a foster child is disgusting. Boy, I guess I am still angry. Believe me, I have nothing against Christians per se (I was raised Catholic, and was even baptised as a Baptist when I first got sober, before eventually i found Buddhism, which seems to be a better fit for me.) But I can't help it, that holier than thou attitude makes me ill. I have many, many gay friends who would never dream of judging someone by their race, sex, religion or sexual orientation! And yet some people who claim to be so pure and Christ-like are anything but. It's really depressing. :(
Oh well, tomorrow I am getting some of the sacred herb - and I shall smoke it until I feel peaceful and forgiving again..

I have found that the gay hating christians are recently beggining to fall into the minority. But in the south they have a higher concentration, but Ican't stand those kinds of people, they need to learn to mind their own damn buisness, what we do causes no harm to them so they have no right to complain.
I admit on one cases I parcially agree with them, thats the gay pride parades, in my opinion it's just an excuse for a bunch of people to show off their fetish gear in public. I know that it's only part of the thses people that attend them that do this, but it's what the public focuses on. ANd also, alot of it's realy discusting. In my opinion the gay pride shit is hurting the gay community's image with the rest of the world

Someone being gay doesn't affect my daily life, and I am sure they could be just as suitable as parents. I see nothing wrong with this all. Some people are just ridiculous.

Also they condemn cannabis and demonize it. Are they forgetting God, the one they belive in so highly, created it, and it's even mentioned in the bible multiple times. Do the just choose what they read and belive?

About the gay couple's adopting children, i'm not exactly against it, but imagine the FUCKED UP life the child would have!?
Children aren't accepting of differences......

kids don't need any excuse to bully and it's amazing what they'll consider normal or abnormal.
considering the number of truly lousy hetero parents i've come across, i can't imagine that a couple's sexual orientation would make them any better or worse. just the fact that the child had two loving parents would be a big plus, in my humble opinion.

First Jesus was not prejudice against queers.
He hung out with 12 men 24/7.
john as his most beloved of all of them.
its in the bible.
Oh well everyone needs something to cling to. mark twain said " if you profess to be an Athiest on your death bed, then i Profess you to be a liar."
My grandma used to say get high on jesus.
Ya granny i bet your bong is shaped like the lord and you and your christian dicksuckers like to lick the stem.

its a proven psycological fact.

About the gay couple's adopting children, i'm not exactly against it, but imagine the FUCKED UP life the child would have!?
Children aren't accepting of differences..this child would lead a terrible life until after they'd finish school (due to bullying) and by then, would most likely be filled with mental issues.

No matter what, this child would be picked on beyond belief!:(

Fucked up? How fucked up? Maybe if they were crackheads, or abusers, but gay?

My sister and her wife have 3 kids... 4,7, and 12. They definately don't get picked on. And they live in Georgia.

Don't be so quick to count your chicks before they hatch. The token "smelly kid" in class gets way more grief than any of her kids do.

I agree, pat. Even as a female, I can't help but roll my eyes when they say "wear red for heart disease for women" or "pink for breast cancer for women..."

I'm all for awareness, but I think it's pretentious and overly extravagant to devote this or that soley to women sufferers... Even sexist. I can't stand women's hospitals, either. Post-partum units? Definately. A whole effing hospital? No. You're going to receive the same standard of care in both types of hospitals, I've worked in both kinds.

That really is unfortunate about their views on gay parents, Demeter. We can only hope to improve others tolerances and diminish their wrongful convictions.

Anywho, i don't believe in a god, so i can't comment on the other issues in this thread.

You're exactly the kind of person who would say the same thing about children born to an interracial couple. Wise up...if it weren't for people like you spouting drivel like this, there wouldn't be a problem.

Become part of the solution: if you have now, or plan to have children, teach them to be accepting of differences. Then there won't be a problem, capiche? Children learn by example. If they see intolerance and bigotry at home, they take that out into the world with them.

Sheesh...5 decades of civil rights, and people are still mouthing this pitiful propaganda.

I hate that argument about how the kid will get made fun of.
It's stupid and outdated.
The world is evolving [slowly] and the more people are just sort of unconcerned that one kid in class is a child of a gay couple, anohter is a product of an interracial marriage, others have different religions, it becomes a nonissue! I mean, it was only just a while ago that interracial couples were really REALLY scorned... now of course bigots still shit on them but the mainstream doesn't seem to notice anymore.
Anyway... gay adopters... ANY adopters... I'd LOVE to see a child go to a family that has to work really really hard to get approved... I mean, ANYONE can get knocked up without approval... it's the really giving, caring people who will go through all the red tape to have the honor of raising another human being.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm not against people believing, but when it comes down to judgment, something that the bible says NOT to do, then it becomes a hypocritical situation, which then makes me angry. I find the hardcore believers to be very judgmental. They will judge you just by the way you dress. You dress in black, oh, they must be Satanists...you listen to heavy music, oh, they must be evil. You smoke cannabis, oh, that's evil. Like, you know, fuck you. :S4:

Back to the main topic though, about gay people being "wrong." I have nothing against people being gay, why should I care what someones sexual pref. is? I don't really care, you know.

My brother and his wife are hardcore Christians. The funny thing is, my brother used to listen to NIn and Marilyn Manson until he met her, and now, I can't even joke with him without God coming into the picture. He finds everything evil. Movies are evil, CSI is evil, cannabis is evil, and mainly, being gay is EVil!

We were watching TV one day, and I noticed Brokeback Mountain was on. I made a joke and said we should watch it. A joke he cannot take...he then proceeded to go on saying it was wrong, and that when a gay couple raises a child, it will become a serial killer or crazy. I was very mad when he said this and I told him right the fuck off. I then told him that Charles Manson grew up in a christian household, along with Dahmer as well, and I mean, those 2 are the sickest killers around.

Before I moved away from Alberta, I read a story about a Morman family. I went to school with 2 of the kids, and it was a big family, like 13 kids. I read in the paper that 2 of the boys are now facing charges because they raped a girl.

Oh wait, I thought religious households were a good thing. :S4: Fuck that and fuck all you extreme believers. Pull your head out of your ass. There is no magic man in the sky guiding you through life. It is a fairy tale story that is not believeable, and they call us crazy?! Out of 10 billion people in this world, they think God has chosen them. Give me a break.

Anyways, I've gone long enough. Look at the middle East. These are people who strongly believe in a God and look at the state of that country. We let the christians take over, and that's how we'll be too. Fighting over who's god is better.

I'm glad so many of you guys agree- at least the whole world isn't insane.

I believe in many ways we are what we see, and people who see evil everywhere except in themselves are merely seeing their own shadows.
I got sucked into anger against those people for a few days, and that is how those fuckers win. I doubt that the fundamentalists of any religion can ever be eliminated, so we have to make sure our viewpoint is expressed, without getting disgusted to the point of nausea.

I'm going to try to switch my mindviewer to the Beauty and Truth channel- that way I hear music and see the brilliant trees against the sky as well as feel love and a sense of purpose in the moment.Even if I just tune in once per day, it really perks me up:D

That's why weed is so great for me because it helps me stay in the now and feel better, since fear only lives in anxiety for the future.

While we're on the topic, I work with postpartum moms and their babies, and I have to say, mixed race babies are the CUTEST things ever. It's so great to see a black husband and white wife, or vice versa... They tend to be more down to earth and loving than many of the people that come in... I like the hair/skin combo, it's really beautiful.

HOORAY that more and more people aren't keeping to the traditional black and black, white and white relationships. Hopefully the world will be more welcoming with gay marriage and child raising as well...

I think it is wonderful and fantastic that gay couples are fostering and adopting children that would probably otherwise be stuck in the system without knowing real love.
I feel that anybody that would love and nuture a child deserves to be able to foster and adopt.
How sad to otherwise be stuck in an "unwanted child" group home. :(

christians are hypocrites TRUE STORY: i was standing at a bus stop in Annapolis, about to go to work. i was wearing a pin with a red X over a crucefix. this black lady kinda tapped me on the shoulder and adked what it means and i said 'it means i dont believe in god and i dont support the institution of catholicism' and this woman got a really scared look on her face and scowled something along the lines of 'my bible says youre a fool for not believing' to which i replied 'my mind says youre a fool for believeing such lies'. well this got her very very angry and she yelled 'youre such a rude girl' and i replied 'well i find your 'god' even ruder for calling me a fool. freedom of speech means the freedom to disagree'. she said a few more things but i decided to ignore them and wait for the longest three minutes of myt life next to this woman as the bus came.
why can't we be friends? christians claim to be tolerant, warm and enlightened people but a lot of the time i find them to be angry, disapproving, stifled, unambitious folks interested only in making me feel like scum and converting me for my supposed sins. sorry, rant. you can disagree if you want. its a true story, though.
anyway, love is love. its the most primal of our instincts. and every child deserves love, no matter what shape or form. i happen to know a boy who was adopted by his lesbain aunt and her partner after his mother decided she couldt care for him. he is as well adjusted as any of us and even sometimes i think he holds an advantage when it comes to respect for diversity having an open mind.

sorry, but that's the way it is.
inside the elitist mentality of most christians there is a little man that says "you are better than anyone who doesn't believe in me". you know who that little man is, don't you? even the ones who won't say so to your face still can't help but believe that little voice.

She has issues that don't really have anything to do with Christianity. That's just a veil for her real problem. Good grief. She should be charged with child abuse for frightening that little one like that. Did you see her face? She was terrified!
