I have been taking Wellbutrin for a month now and smoke cannabis everyday as well. I feel more depressed now than i ever have been in my life. I have heard medications not working while smoking, but is it the medication itself that isn't working for me? Or is it the combo? I don't know if i should stay on the med or not. I need advice please.

Hon, you should talk to a medical professional about this. My own personal experience has been that Wellbutrin makes me worse. But that's all it is...my own personal experience.

You need to talk to a qualified medical person. Maybe some other anti-depressant would work better with your biochemistry.

Definitely talk to your doctor, hun, and tell him/her about your daily smoking, too. There's not really any way for perfect srangers to tell you what's going on. If you stay on prescribed meds, you might need to try a different medicine or a higher dose or even a combination of meds. Try not to give up hope quite yet. Talk to your doc!

Let me have a say..

I took depikote and wellbutrin back then and I was cured.. then I started smoking and it turns out that the medicine made the weed more potent.
There was a point in time when I smoked everyday and I was always really high as if my tolerance was ALWAYS super low. (think a stoner version of wolverine's mutant power, lol!)

When I stopped taking my meds.. suddenly I had a tolerance. When I smoked everyday, I finally got to the point where I did not get high at ALL. It was a very interesting discovery..

I believe weed is not making a depression reaction when mixing with wellbutrin.. It's only making it more potent :P

I was on paxil for a while, and smoke everyday. I felt much much different when I smoked on them. Something about the fact anti-depressants are MAOI inhibitors. The receptors in your mind are inhibited by the anti-depressants,I always used to think the cannabanoids and THC combined with the anti-ds had a negative impact on the depression symptoms. It's all chemicals in your brain out of whack is all bro, you'll get through it; and as the mrs. and birdgirl said ,you should see your doctor about this, if you're parents can't know about you smoking ,and you can't tell him you're gonna have to get through this the hard way. Keep us updated, we're all here for you:)

See your doctor...please do not take any other advice! I've been on & off that stuff and went through alot of unnecessary hell because I didn't seek the right advice...I had to see a psychiatrist simply because my MD could not make sense with it...#1 tell you doc that you are using MJ daily. Patient/doctor relations are built on trust(both ways!).
#2 If your doctor can not prove or disprove the safety of MJ with your treatment, seek a second opinion...I did & now things are better.Don't be suprised if your MD doesn't like that admission...he/she is not your father and can only advise you.;)
BTW...both my personal MD & my shrink think it is good for me to continue using MJ! In fact I saw my doc last week & she remarked how much better I looked and I gave all the credit to MMJ! She wants to see my MMJ MD:p :stoned:

I do believe the mixture with Cannabis would be because Wellbutrin (Buproprion I believe the chemical name is) interacts with your Dopamine levels, which is also how the euphoria from cannabis is caused (indirectly).

If it's not working, you can try switching over to any medication that effects your seratonin (Normal SSRI's) or something more natural and less tested as 5-HTP (I use this for my Seasonal Affective Disorder).

But yes, go talk to your doctor.

I took WellbutrinSR and am an everyday smoker. I don't know if this was the cause but I had a nervous breakdown while taking it (I was not high when it happened). I've taken plenty of other mood altering meds, but never had reactions similar to what I experienced with Wellbutrin. It made me worse. You have to wean yourself off that stuff if I remember correctly...you can't just stop taking it....becareful and see you doc right away. Good Luck, and I hope that you find a med that works for you.
